Not sure about this one. I posted it a few years ago, decided to try and finish/redo parts today.

The mix clips and is overcompressed in places, unbalanced basically sucks. But anyway, my sunday. Does the arrangement work?

I would agree to some extent that the mix is over compressed. Sounds like you lost of the high peaks. Kinda dull and overly bassey.

However....this song is excellent. The performances are outstanding...what terrific vocals...harmonies. Nice bass line. Great changes. The arrangement maintains the interest quite well. I want to hear what happens next...I like that. Only thing is I might repeat that last section. I think it should end like that, but not so soon. Just my opinion.

Beautiful song, Emeric.

Wow, I really like this song. Its very catchy and impressive. Damn nice work. Are you in the Compo... wait Challenge ? :)

Nice. Very good song-the melody reminds me of something-its on the tip of my brain hmmmm....Nice guitar tone and ghostly sounds here and there. Real drums!! Glad theres still a few real drum people in here. They sound good-the kick has a wierd tone-kinda mid-rangey-you get a nice stereo effect on drum fills-snare sounds very good to me.

A question-what kind of processing do you do with your drums? Do you record with any compression? I've noticed a few big peaks on snares or kicks will domintae my mixes, leaving a tiny wave file with a couple of giant peaks uuugh.

Anyway-the mix sounds good so far-i hear the compression when things pick up in the song-the bass is kinda big-but I like alot of bass personally. Vocals sound great-good performance and nice BGV layering. I wish the the end chorus would repeat, the song reaches a peak there and then just ends..Good to leave the listener wanting more I guess.

Enjoyed the song mucho. Nice work as usual.

This is another quality composition from you Em, great stuff. I agree about the recording being somewhat muddy in the middle.

Very good song-the melody reminds me of something-its on the tip of my brain hmmmm

I am having that same feeling but i can't even think of the bands it could be. I wanna say somewhere after classic rock and before 70's country rock, it's the vocal layering that's giving me this. Damn wish i could figure it out.

Oh Man it came to me-and it can't be true..

"Bringin on the Heartache" By Def Leppard

Stratomaster - are you thinking of that Simply Red song because of the guitar? or is it that 9th chord thats ringing some bells cause its doing it to me.

Ditto on the compression issues.

This tune has a really unique sound to it. Harmonies are really spot on and the arrangement is excellent. The song seems to just...end. The harmony is open and unresolved. In one respect, its a pretty cool idea because it defies expectations. Its a little jarring though, and I'm not sure if it was your intention

SLuiCe: Yeah, know what you mean, didn't think it was 'dull' but a little bassy.. :D

CanopuS: Glad you like it. The what?

Stratomaster: Bit of reverb on the snare, EQ on the the kick. No compression when recording, I leave that till after so I can really fuck the tune up.

Thanks Khompewtur, no idea what it may be.

Stratomaster: I fired up Kazza and checked out that DL tune. hmmm. Nah. hah. :D Every tune after pyromania sounds like that one. heh.

ashulman: The song actually carries on after that, but thought it was kinda cool to kill it at that point. Thanks for the info.

Thanks all.

awww man, you know what I meant. The compression took a lot of the edge off it. Still very impressive IMO.

yeah I know, just joking! heh.

Here's a less compessed one, extended for Stratomaster.

Listened to the less compressed version. I really like the punch in those drums and Bass. and that guitar is Perfect in the mix. Very nice snare. Iwish I could get some of that in my stuff:D

Peace

Thumbs up-the cymbals are coming through better in the chorus now. I like the extension-but I really want to hear that vocal part repeated-but I understand (its your song and its already tracked!). And no I didn't think you were influenced by DL-its more the chord progression (which is pretty standard).

This song has an interesting arrangement-its almost like theres only 1 chorus and it happens in the last 20 seconds of the song. Interesting. Great guitar tone by the way, love it. And man you're able to really crank that snare up. I can't seem to get that in my mixes.

i listened to the extended version... great sound! Good vocals and guitars... the bass is big and prominent, but i like it! The bass drum has a weird sound to it... anyone else feel the same way?? I don't have a good enough to know why it sounds weird, but it just doens't seem to fit completely... the rest of the drums sounds great though! Overall I liked it a lot... just the bass drum... weird...

Excellent tune emeric. You have that 70's feel in your music that I miss so much in todays music. The drums, guitars and bass sound great on this.Really good tracking and playing.....I would like to hear those haunting sounds (sounds kind of like volume swells) a little louder and maybe traveling from one side to the other......really dug the tune.....vocals are excellent too.

Good job.

Cool song emeric. I'd bring up the lead vocal a hair and shorten the instrumental intro. In the ending, which I really like, I'd bring all the vocals up hard like a Seals & Croft style. Good song.

Nice tune Em,
I like the arrangement at 1:00. ...holding that note is nice and unexpected. Very nice harmonies man! .....liked this one alot!

listening to the extended version of course.. I love the way that snare drum sounds.. the extended ending is great.. some things sound like bad drum hits, but it's all in time.. great vocals.. I do hear some of the over compression.. the drums sound great at the end..

Check out a song by King's X called 'Fish Bowl Man.' It's from the album 'Please come home Mr. Bulbous'.. It's doesn't sound like this song so much, but the drum sound and the vocals have things in common.. cool..

Gotta love those drums! great voc's and harmonies as per always. kick's extra dry but really tight. Nice one.

Thanks for checking it out wfaraoni, glad you liked it.

Stratomaster, it's true it's all tracked has been for years. The structure is already in place. I mean I could go and redo it all from scratch, but getting this much done on it (again) was an accomplisment for me. The guitar/bass/drum tracks are almost 3 years old now - time to move on. Thanks for the listen!

The bass is a bit prominent for sure dctalkdotnet. Maybe too much so, don't know. You're right about the kick though, I was thinking that as well. It's a bit thuddy. Don't know what I can do about it though, maybe a bit of EQ. Appreciate the comments.

Thanks Kramer. The guitar effect stuff are indeed volume swells, the idea of giving them more movement in the mix is a good one.

The vocal level is always a challange for me clay. I find them always too loud. Especially the ending vocal part, I couldn't get a comfortable level so left it on the conservative side. Seals & Croft hehe.. Thanks man!

Thanks Guernica, holding notes are a great escape to a lack of lyric ideas :) Glad you liked it.

The hits at the end are kind of odd sounding B.SABBATH. The timing is 'out' but 'in'. It wasn't supposed to be that way, it was supposed to be fixed up a bit. This is the reason I attempted to truncate the song length in the shorter version. There are a few other timing screwups here and there. I like that snare too, haven't been able to get it to sound quite right since. That type of open ringy snare lends itself well to this sparse type music though. I guess I really should check out KingX one of these days! Thanks for the listen Sam.

Hey David, you posted while I was typing this out. Yeah kick is dry, that's the word. It may need to be more open sounding, hard to do that now though unless I sample replace it. Thanks for checking the tune out.

While you pulled off the "Yes" elements of this rearrangement, I thought it was best left to the old arrangement. Oh well!
