stylus problems

well i had turntables a few years ago and never had this problem but i got a vestax 2000 and a ortofon om pro s cartridge, i don't know if i have the weight set wrong (i dont think so) or the cartridge hooked up wrong or what but the needle stays on one track always..... do i have to adjust the arm at all..... anyone have any suggestions?
 
Theres only one track on each side of a vinyl record (except for some special records that they do it as a joke) so I would expect it to be rather hard to NOT stay on one track always. :)
 
i mean it continuously plays the same 3 second loop wherever i drop the needle.....
 
Can you move the arm easily left and right?

When you set the needle pressure to 0 is the arm balanced? (assuming you have a 0 setting)
 
yes and yes...... i think i dont have the height set up right..... maybe the overhang.....

when you get an extra stylus with a cartridge where is it? is it in the cartridge, i bought one that was supposed to have two needles and there is only one..... and i got an extra shell weight with it i dont know if i should hook that one up or not because i have the one from the vestax.... it stays on track for a minute then it skips.....i think i dont have the height set up right.....
 
Oh, you can change the height? Cool, I've never seen that.

No, it's probably the needle pressure or the anti-skid that is set incorrect. Maybe there is something about this in the manual?
 
the only thing in the manual remotely close is it says that the needle has to be 50 mm from the end of tonearm to needle, i have done this..... it's like the needle is bent just a bit, it plays for a second then skips every second playing the same thing..... ahhhhhhhhhh!
 
The needle cqn be bent to san fransisco and it would still track reasonably well. No, I still think it's the needle pressure or anti-skid setting that's wrong. You need to figure out how to change them on your tonearm, and then set them correctly. I guess somebody somewhere on the need probably has written a page on how to do that adjustment properly.
