Hi,
Just coming to the end of my studio build....will need a very involved post to describe that...watch this space! However, now that I have the shell of the studio, I have to store things in it...
It started as a single garage in the UK so is only roughly 2.7 x 5.7 metres inside. I have some things that would normally go in a garage that I still have to store....to start with there are 2 x bicycles which I will probably hang from a wall.
Originally I thought about getting some old kitchen units to go on the back 2.7 metre wall....there will be a tall fridge freezer in there and then I thought about 2.1 metres of kitchen units to hide away the things that I don't want mixing with delicate musical / electrical stuff.....so (lots of) tool boxes, oil, paint, anti-freeze, garden tools and all that boring nasty stuff. I also have a few large boxes of old business/personal paperwork and files I have to find room for.
I may still do that but kitchen units, even second hand on ebay are still coming up ridiculously expensive.
I also need to think about general storage. My various instrument amplifiers can all sit on the floor and I may wall mount a bunch of guitars.....but what to do with all the other stuff?....the sorts of things I need to organise are:
A bunch of effects pedals that aren't on my current floorboard (10 - 15 plus boxes)
Old multi-effects: Zoom 4040, Boss GT-5, Pod 2 and long floor board, old Ibanez analogue multi-effects plus others I've probably forgottent.
Old Roland BR8 recorder and old zip disks I'll want to access from time to time.
Boxes of mains cables, guitar and mic cables and related.
Boxes of old guitar bits, pickups, scratchplates, sockets, wire, new strings, slides, metronomes, tuners....you know how it all stacks up!
Boxes of guitar magazines (with tutorials) that I want to be able to easily access.
Boxes of guitar books and DVDs / CDs - as above
Some old vinyl.
We are probably talking around 50 books, 100 magazines, 50 boxed DVDs and then a stack of loose CDs (my bad)...
I will also want to plug in 2 or 3 PCs with keyboards, mice, monitors, speakers, a large CD unit and amp etc....- that stuff I might just get a large computer desk for.
I could just build some shelves.....my studio design has stud work in the walls so I have 2" wide beams every 60cm.....but I'm much better at the bigger / structural stuff than the organisational and tidy stuff (ask my wife!) so would love some advice or ideas as to how you guys have organised your things!
Oh, just for context.....I have about 10 guitars and 5 guitar amps (two 2 x 12 combos, a 1 x 12 combo, a Roland KC500, an Orange Rockerverb MkII 100 watt head....and a JVM 410H that I am GASsing for) and our new drummer (oh my god the nearest thing I have ever heard to Mike Portnoy - he is so out of our league!) will leave quite a large drum kit in there......I have the bass player's smallish Mark bass amp in there and there is a fair chance that a keyboard with stand (or two) will get left in there. A small PA will either get left in there or I will end up buying one.
I don't mind this stuff....anything that encourages people to rehearse at my place is very, very convenient for me!
But, for those that are more spacially aware than me (and that is probably most
) you will picture that this is quite a lot of stuff for a 2.7 x 5.7m space and therefore organising my sh*t is quite important!
I look forward to your suggestions!
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Andy
