i'm curious about the TB1... is anybody using one of these? I noticed that the older model TB1 was in a casing about the size of the b1 and now it's about the size of the C1. I was wondering if there are any major changes.

The TB1 is warm, airy and not as colored as the T3. There are many other tube mics out there for less, but the TB1 is well worth its price as the quality and sound are better IMHO.

I'm a complete outsider here, and a fan of SP products in general. I also have to say there is nothing that DJL wrote here that is unreasonable or untrue. I think SP doth protest too much, and does a deservice to it's reputation and products to engage in the kind of name calling we've seen here.
Your mics are not for everyone. Period.
A C1 is *not* as accurate as an 87. Period.
This doesn't make it a bad mic.

This has nothing to do with SP mics. You obviously haven't been around here long. Alan Hyatt Hatfield and DJL McCoy have been going at it for several years, as a result of family grievances that started over 100 years ago. Most of the family have let bygones be bygones, but these two will fight it out to the bitter end.krs said:

I do hope, in the interests of "responsible marketing", that you aren't including the Mexican SM57 in that assessment of Shure's merits

Apologies for having sounded so dogmatic about this. Transient reponse on acoustic sources, across the spectrum, and granted, that is a subjective, "ears only" evaluation. Maybe you have the holy grail C1 that I haven't heard. That is entirely possible.
No need to get upset guys. This is just my opinion. I do stand by my original assertion, from my experience. Maybe we can agree to disagree.

If you've tried both mics side by side then I have no problem with your assessment.
