I am interested in getting a Studio project C1 mic and was going through their web page....
Then I come across their new product, which is the VTP-1 preamp.
Looks kinda impressive, and if it's anythng like the C1, I want one as well!! :)

anyone seen or try one before??
Alan, wanna give us some updates?

BTW, Alan, where can I get the C1 in my part of the world?
:)

Thanks!

Looks good by all accounts but I dont know if its tubed or if its one or two channels

Hey guys,

If this thread will stay civil, I will stay on. The VT-1 is discrete class A/B switching. The tube drive only ad’s about 4 to 6 db of gain, and its tube is a hand selected 12ax7.

The cool thing is you can get a very detailed clean sound like a Grace or Avalon, and then by adding just a touch of Tube Drive for warmth and air, it really opens up, or drive it into total distortion if you want to.

With the front panel D.I. and instrument preamp, the VT-1 is also a distortion pedal with many features and impedance matching. We just added an insert jack, so we are 90 days out, but we are getting close and hope to drop our price on the unit if all goes well with our vendors.

I do not want to start anything here by making claims, but you all know what the C1 does, so all I can tell you is the mic pre is every bit what it should be. The beta testers are already doing the comparison thing, but that will come later.

So lets stay away from the bashing thing and wait until the unit ships before another chaos sets in over this unit as it did on the C1.

Darrin,

We used several brands for the prototypes including Slovtek, Mullards, and others. We also used some handpicked Chinese ones, from the supplier that supplies our 6072's for our mics.

They were all good, with very little difference. It will come down to our ears, price, and availability, in that order.
