Then, low and behold, I figure out that the who's who of SP hangs out and posts regularly on this board. I find out that the designers actually interact with their target market for ideas. I find out that the owner of the company uses this place as a sounding board for products.

Don't think for a second that it isn't a symbiotic relationship though. People like having access to the manufacturer to answer questions about the product. And the manufacturer uses it's web presence to increase sales. There's nothing wrong with that, but it would be naive the think that SP keeps such a strong presence on the various webboards merely out of the goodness of their hearts.

Oh, I'm well aware. But at least it's a mutually benneficial relationship. It's certainly better than seeing the site riddled w/ SP banners and popups, now isn't it?

How come the "Made in USA" stickers are made in Taiwan?

I think that we should think about "who is making" and "how they are making" are more important questions than Where they are making. Ive seen crap spewed out from just about every corner of the planet. There are some things made in the USA I won't waste my money on. same goes for other things from other countries.
Personally, I think that because of Alans hard work at SP is forcing the competitors to rethink how involved they should be in the mic business. People are now aware that SP is one of the leaders in pushing the envelope of budget mics. Ive heard ADK taking some heat from some people and I guarantee ADK is going to keep pushing their envelope.
Times are changing fast.

On the other hand... it cost Shure a lot of money to setup a plant here in the USA to make USA diaphragms, and to employ people here and etc... and it's a just a shame to have some company trying to force them out of business with China made mic's labeled as MADE IN USA.

Hey Alan, sense this is an SP thread, let's change this thread to getting a good buzz going about the Stephen Paul mic... peace for now, what do you say?

We'd have as much luck forcing Sony outta business as we would trying to force Shure out. Theres no way in hell thats going to happen, nor is it what we are trying to do, despite what ever it is you may think.

Hi Justin, hey lets change this thread into something positive... what do you say?

It seems like a shame..but maybe it isn't.
I don't think anyone is going out of business here, at least not yet. SP is taking advantage of a market ignored by companies like Shure. Did you know that the SM57 didn't used to cost $80 bucks? My first one cost be almost $130. If you would like, I suggest you open the hood on the KSM44 and tell me where the internals are made. Not just the capsule, but the lil iddy biddy capacitors, resistors, PCB's or even the wiring.
We live in a big world, where every country and person of nationality deserves to work, not just americans. I personally like to have options, and by competing at the global level you can have more options. I don't think putting a label that says "Made in the USA" is bad. I bought a B1 and a VTB-1 from 2 different distributors. American distributors, and they were delivered to my house by UPS and FedEx truck driven by Americans. So, by Alan combining Chinese builders, with American modified designs, 4 different American companies benefited with my money. Alan got paid, Chinese worker got paid, Bayview Audio got paid, Full compass got paid, Fedex and UPS got paid. If those products were not affordable...nobody would have got paid? And since I got what I needed to get the job done, I get paid and the more I get paid the more I redistribute that wealth to other countries including my own. See....its not as bad as it seems...

Brent, yea that answers one of my questions... however, I believe Harvey appreciates the respect I've given him by honnoring his request. Oh, and I think my neighbor Mickey will get a bang out of your dead comment... thanks. lol.

Most if not all of shure Sm57's 58's and some others are made in my country, México. They have 2 manufacturing plants, one in agua prieta and the other in Juarez. I know this for a fact because its a pain in the ass. Manufacture the mics in mexico, export to US, package them in the US, and then to the dealers. In the case of Mexico, they have to re-import them to be distributed, and in brief that means, no matter what I'll never find these at the same low price as in the states, even if they are made here :(

I don't know what other mics besides those they make here.

Some of you people have odd and frighteningly irrational hang-ups. On other boards I hang out on the manufacturers are welcomed and people tend to respect their presence. We know they're manufacturers and that they probably have a bias, but what the hell, that's what they do for a living; it's their passion! Fuck man, Zvex and Jacques and many others hang out in the HC Effects forum, the Fender guys are all over the FDP, Ted Weber has a nice, niche board, HRI has manufacturers or builders on there, and all of those boards are the same: these guys are not only welcome, they're respected!

Damn, what about studio guys hanging out in other areas of this forum, if they post something about their studio work are they advertising too?

Frankly, I think this hang up alludes to some more significant issues of the respective personalities who have them. No need to speculate on what those issues are, but suffice to say it's similiar in many respects to psychopathy.

How'd this turn into a SHURE thing???

I've got nothing but praise for Shure. The KSM141 small condensers are fabulous and they've got some great people working there.

The SM57 is still a great mic after all these years (but you'll need a really good mic preamp to know it) even though I think the Studio Projects B1 has replaced it as the first obvious mic purchase when putting together a project studio.
