Just as a curiosity...Has anyone bought one of these yet? I know this crowd is on the MXL rush, and Im testing the waters. Im sitting here at my desk thinking about buying one....to buy or not to buy?

Anyone seen the advertised Polar Pattern proaganda?

Peace,
Dennis

Dennis,I don't think the B-series has quite hit the streets yet.I think it was last week that Alan said they were in transit and should be at the distributers in a week or so.I hate to be a guina pig but I think I'm going to buy a B-3 as soon as it is available.:D

Hey guys,

We started making room for them today. We have two containers coming in, so we cleared a big space. So they will be in the stores soon. The B1 should be $79.00, the B3 $149.00, and the TB1 $299.00. I know I can't wait until a few of you guys start to buy them and compare them with the other mics out there. Its going to be real fun over the next few months...:D

Alan,I'm twitching like a junkie witrh a bad jones!I hate to be the first person to try a product but I gotta tell ya that I'm going to order a B-3 the very minute that it becomes available.I've been doing quite a bit of PR for ya and I sincerely hope that the mic meets my expectations.I gotta say that I am not expecting a mic that sounds just like a Neumann (or any other mic) but my expectations run more towards a fairly smooth (as opposed to the harshness of some other inexpensive condensers)sounding mic that is a good value for the money. As a poor man value is critical to me,I don't have $150 to waste (like I wasted $200 on a Mxl2001p when they first appeared) but that doesn't mean that I'm expecting the equal of any high end mic (I'm 47yo and I realize to a large extent you get what you pay for).

If you could please post when you ship them to the distributers, don't worry about it being spam as I'm not asking for a sales pitch (I'm already sold anyhow). If someone takes offense to that then they are a moron and should be ignored anyhow. The only SP dealer in my area sells everthing for retail so you can bet I won't be buying from them so I guess online is the only way to go.

Thanks Alan,but before I go I just gotta say;I want my freakin B-3!!!:D :D :D

The Minute It hits the streets I want sereal no.1 B1 and I want you to autogragh it for me. E-mail me as soon as you get it.

oh...I saw them in the fullcompass.com catalog and I called an got the price...$79.99...Im getting one for sure when they finally ship to the distributors. I have a question as how they mount if there is no iso-spider...Ive seen no mic like it without a mount. So when are they suppose to be available....not just advertised.

Peace,
Dennis

You just might be very surprised at the B3. I will keep my big mouth shut, but I suspect we will even make Gidge a believer when these hit the streets! :D

Alan,you ain't helping my twitch,man.I wanna try one NOW!!!!:D :D :D

im wanting the SP pre-amp.....when is it gonna hit the streets? Im gonna have to get a $79 b1. I blew $79 on a harsh sounding nady that i hate already. maybe this $79 mic will actually sound good. I will say that im VERY satisfied with my C-1 mic.

Alan, is the B series going to replace the C series? Is the B series going to sound as good as the C series, or is the C series going to be a more "top of the line" line of SP mics?

just wondering whether your just making a cheaper mic or have been able to produce the same quality mics for less.

C1 Pad

Sorry to put this up here, but as it's the most recent thread on SP mics (and my searches have proved fruitless...) I've got a question on the C1 I know you guys can answer:

I guess the C1 originally shipped without a pad, as I recall Rip Rowan complaining about that in his review, but there's one on mine - a three-position switch with pad (10db)(right) and two other, positions that appear to be "flat" (middle) and something else (left). Is this something else a LP filter, and if so, by how much? The manual that came with the mic doesn't mention the switch (or the possibility of padding the mic) at all, so I'm guessing that it is a recent improvement. Would appreciate someone taking the time to enlighten me.

Thanks, Gelon

Gelon,

The switch is a 10dB pad and a 6 dB per octave 150hZ Hi-Pass filter. The middle position is off, just like the original C1. You can only use either the pad or Hi-Pass filter at a time, so one or the other. The feature was added and released early, so the new manuals will be shipping soon.

This feature is exactly the same feature on the C3, so you can look there for information as well.

I hope this helps :D

Alan, Why not both?

I know that you're gonna say it's economics, but aren't there times when you would want both a pad and a filter simultaneously, as in close-micing an amp?

Its not economics. I just think that those type of situations are very far and few between. In addition, in 99% of these cases, the mic-pre or mixer being used already has a pad and or filter on it. I wanted to be sure that in the neutral position, the C1 was identical to the original. Two switches was silly, and four pole switch would not look right with all the etching, so this is the way I did it.

It may not be the answer you are looking for, but it is the answer. :D

Well the C Series will not replace the B Series. There are differences and the C Series is still our main line. We will see what happens as a result of the B Series because I expect it to hurt some sales of the C Series at first, but the mics are different sounding so I also expect someone who is happy with the B Series will look at a C Series for one of their next mics. The same holds true with all the owners of the C Series. I hope that they will look at the B Series based on their C Series experiences. I have produced a very innexpensive quality mic, that sounds different from the C Series.

The mic pre is still a sore thumb, but we are in the home stretch. The bad news is, it has taken forever...the good news is, I will be making it up to all of those who have been waiting by adjusting the price. I won't go into what that will be until I am ready to ship them. So, for those of you who wait, I will make it worth your while. :D

thanks alan
like the old saying goes

"good things come to those who wait"

so im gonna wait on the sp pre
im going to try one of the b series mics...maybe the multi pattern since the only real good mic i have is a c-1....that would give me a little variety

thanks again for responding to my post, your input is very much appreciated on this board...by ME anyway:)

Pair of SP B1 mics as overheads, Alan?

My order is already in for 2 B1's.

I plan to use them as drum overheads.

I guess I'm just hoping for some reassurance from Alan that they will do well up there above the drums.

And maybe some advice about whether to X-Y them or space them?

I know you said you're gonna keep your mouth shut about these mics, but these are pretty basic questions, eh?

C1 Pad

Thanks for the quick reply, Alan. Yeah, I assumed the left position was a HP filter (don't know why I wrote LP...). 150hz; aren't they normally 100hz on condensors? Why did you decide on 150hz? Just curious...Thanks again, Gelon
