After several weeks of inaction progress is beginning again. My tape/mud guy finally came back out yesterday (3 weeks since last visit). He promised to come back out today but that's another story. Oh well.
A buddy of mine at work finally spec'd out my HVAC ductwork. Looks like I need more registers than I had estimated. The live room requires 4 supply registers and the control room needs 3. Of course the returns will be ducted also. The supply will start from the plenum with a 14" trunk narrowed down to a 12" trunk. All ducts to the registers will be homeruns back to the trunk. The live room will get 2 runs from the 14" trunk and 2 from the 12" trunk. The control room will get 1 run from the 14" trunk and 2 from the 12" trunk. The runs to registers will be insulated flex duct. He said to use 7" but the flex duct sizes start at 8" so that's what I'll use. This should reduce some of the airflow noise too even though I don't plan on running the air during actual recording. The return starts at the plenum with a 14" trunk and narrows to 12" running to the live and control room 20"x20" registers/filter holders. These registers will be either mounted on the wall or incorporated into a suspended ceiling tile. Probably the latter to keep from having such a large hole in the wall.
I'll post my drawing later. It's too large right now (158K) to post here so I'll have to reduce it. Don't expect much because I did it in paint. Still haven't gotten the hang of Autocad
Hey Michael - sorry I haven't responded much lately but it really hard to get computer time here at home. My wife loves to play games and my son is sitting here right now playing Kansas' Dust in the Wind on the acoustic until I give up the computer
