hey everyone, check out my studio nearing completion! it is not world class by any means, but it does provide a hideaway that does not wake the neighbors. i will have it finished by the end of this week and will place updated photos. i plan to buy auralex acoustic treatment to take care of the slapback and echo issues i am already encontering. does anyone else have any other ideas? why is auralex so expensive? is it worth the money if i have a budget for it? i have about $2500 to spend on treatment.

thanx

may take a bit to download, there is about 12 pics.

That's gonna be PHAT!

BTW, what is "spanish lace"?

Peace,
Beathoven

spanish lace is (where i am from anyway) when you spatter mud (drywall mud) on the drywall. it looks kinda like cake frosting. i will post a close up this evening. then you just simply paint over it like normal. what you get is a rough texture rather than smooth drywall. no real acoustic benifit, just looks cool, plus you cannot see scratches and dents and nail holes as easily. thanx for your reply.

Hmmm... I think I know what you are talking about... Some people put that on the outside of their house, right?

If it's what I think, here we call it "stucco"

Peace,

yup! that is the same thing. i have had lots of comments that people like the looks and feel of that stuff in my studio. i mean, people that i am bringing through to show off that is. :) i cant wait to start tracking. i am currently working on acoustic issues. i still have a bit of a "ring" in my live room yet. so, back to sweetwater ( www.sweetwater.com ) for some more costly but effective auralex studio foam. has anyone one else used this stuff? i am actually quite impressed with the results. it is the 2" wedge foam panels that i am using. for a bass traps, i took regular 2" thick styro foam, cut a 4' x 8' piece in half. making it 2' x 8'. then i cut the long edges at 45 degrees to fit it in the corner. i then put the 2" studio foam wedges on the front. works great!!! so far anyway. new pictures will be coming soon, i still have a room to put carpet in. so i am going to wait. they will be doing that on monday. thanx for everyone who is checking it out.

I have used their products over the years and are very satisfied with their color retaining, sound modifying properties over the years. Its good stuff in my book.

If you haven't purchased the Aurlex yet try looking int some Corning Acoutical sheets.

I got raw 2x4 sheets when I built my private studio last year.

Covered it myself with porus cloth and it works as good or better that Aurlex. The big plus is that is extremely cheap compared to Airlex.

Good looking studio and I definitely like the idea of spanish lace.
I have it on the walls in my home in some areas.

i already have purchased the auralex, and i am fairly pleased with the results. do you have a web address for the other stuff you are talking about?

That is one hell of a great construction. Post the pics when it's completly finished.

I just saw one little fault in your studiofloor plan. I corrected it and here it is.

Call 1-800-GET-PINK and request information. It can be made in all sizes and thickness.

I went thru a local supply store here in Tampa, Fl.

Home Deport/Lowes all carry this stuff or can order it.

thanx for the correction DS. :O lol i must say i about burst at the seams after viewing it. my girlfriend just happened to be staring over my shoulder and about pissed her pants. i am waiting to take final pictures monday night or tuesday, due to a delay in the carpet installation. i have my drums set up in the live room and i am really surprised at how good the room sounds. much better than expected!
