Studio Monitor Help

Now I know you always have to hear them for yourself and that some monitors are better than others for different situations, but now that I've narrowed my decision down to two options in my price range, I need a little help. I've decided on either the Yamaha HS50M active studio monitors [http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--YAMHS50M] or the KRK RP5G2 Rokit G2 2-Way active monitors [http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--KRKRP5G2]. Like most people, I'm looking for flat, accurate sound reproduction for mixing as well as comparing other cd mixes to my own. I'm not concerned with subwoofers. Which pair would give me the best balance of quality vs. value? I'm not necessarily stuck on these two alone, so feel free to suggest others within this price range (which you can see is quite tight).

Hi Bill,

I just posted a couple of similar questions on Other Equipment and in Mixing/Mastering.

The best advice I got was basically to try out a bunch of monitors in my price range in the store and try to audition a couple in your own studio. Go with what sounds best to you. Use recommendations you get here on HR BBS in order to find out which monitors to try, but after that let your ears help you decide. I'm off to the store this weekend to see if I can't find my perfect monitoring solution. :)

Good luck with your search and sorry if this wasn't too much help.

:D Yo Bill:

A while back I used a passive set of KRK monitors. For the money, they can do a good job. When I did a run through on a new set of monitors, somebody bought mine on the spot. I always save the boxes so they can be packaged safely if sold.

As mentioned from the posts, checking out monitors at a vendor is a good way to try before you buy. It may help if you can even take a drive to a relatively close vendor if possible.

I've moved to an active set of monitors; however, I have a passive set also on standby.

Happy Holidays
