I have recently started building my home studio. yes, I am a newbie...forgive me. I have a Presonus Firestation, going into a custom computer, rode nt1000 and a few dcent instrument mics, line 6 pod...thats pretty much my setup now. I dont know whether to run Cubase Sx or Pro Tools 6.1? any ideas? Also, the main point of this. I just did all four walls in 3/8 plywood beadboard. I have all four sides completely done in wood ( I want added ambience for the sound) I dont know what to do with the ceiling or floors. Anyone help? It is a drop ceiling now, but noise comes from above pretty fluently. I need something to both stop the noise from coming in so much, and not to take away from the ambience. Also, should I put a full rug or carpet floor? Ive heard people talk about parralells. I dont understand....again I am new at this, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Pete, here's your free "full sail +" education in two easily bookmarked places - absorb the stuff that's there and you can teach the rest of us.

Before I could start to give you "the short answer", you would need to provide more info on your existing construction, as deep as you can dig. Things like ceiling joist spacing, ceiling height of the room, room size, what's behind the bead board (in detail), etc - if you check out the "stickies" in the Construction forum on the John Sayers site, it will clear up much of what I'm talking about.

Oh, and a rough idea of your budget...Steve

Thanks for awakening me...I didn't even realize I wasn't using a digidesign product. My original plans included a digi002, but then switched, and I guess I never worked that in. What software do you recommend?

IMHO

...everyone has their favorite software, and mine was CEP2.0, but I moved to Cubase SL when I got my Firestation because I was recording more than 2 tracks at once, and wanted to use the ASIO drivers. You can use WMD drivers if you are only recording two tracks, but where is the fun in that? Gotta love those pre's!
