Striping a tape for SMPTE

Learning, always learning
Ok, now that I have the cable finally constructed (YES!), the MTS-1000 works like a dream with the TSR-8. I keep giggling like a school girl each time I change a function and it affects the deck.:D I've tried setting the time format (NDF 30) and giving a start time. I've set channel 8 on the TSR-8 to receive / play the timecode (no dbx of course). I arm the track, hit record, and then hit start on the T/C generator on the MTS-1000. I see the LEDS light up on the deck. However, the "Code Status" on the MTS-1000 is saying "24" (as in 24 frames) vs. the "30" that I have selected. I have no idea what to believe or which is correct.

I know there aren't a whole lot of people who have messed with the MTS-1000, but I figured that this might be a general (user error) set up problem with the two, that would be applicable to any synchronizer/deck combination. Any suggestions?
