Stop Audio Engine: Why?

In SONAR HS 4, when you hit the stop button to stop tracks from playing, it doesn't really stop things from platying. The last sample keeps repeating, ad infinitum, sounding like a loud, bad connection or garbage at any rate, which is really annoying. To stop it I have to hit the Stop Audio Engine button or the Reset button.

I didn't have to do that in CW9. How come in SONAR? Is this some kind of "feature"? I've looked around for an option that kills the audio engine when Stop is pressed but I'm not finiding it.

Is the sample in question an audio sample? In a rewire synth? In a soft synth? Hardware synth?

I never have that problem in Sonar 5 (producer)....... sorry, don't know what it is.

You might want to make sure that the audio settings are the same as you previously had them set, as in resetting the stream, etc.

Update

There is a setting that says "open all devices" which I had turned on in an attempt to get Sonar to see all my sound hardware. That's not what the option does apparently. Unchecking this option stops the annoying noise.
