Hey everyone,

basically I've been searching for a while now for something for band to record, I posted an earlier thread but thought it would be better to start a fresh one.

simply I just want to get a simple recording of our band, to make 'demo' quality stuff. If we want better I figure we can just fork out the cash for a pro job.

so I was pointed in the direction of interfaces but honestly I feel more comfortable behind a mixer because it's what I've used previously.

So i've been looking at usb mixers( i figure I can use it for basic recording and live so a win there)

I think my most important part though is being able to record at 6-8 tracks simultaneously on my macbook pro.( with whatever software the device comes with)

so basically I'll link three here to see if anyone could figure it out, or already knows from previous experience if any of these will perform to my standards albeit rather low.

(any other recommendations?)

Or maybe an interface isn't as intimidating as it seems, it's just I like to be able to listen and control all my sound physically rather than with a mouse. but maybe I'm way off on this.

many thanks in advance.

OK, sorry.
so I just read over my previous thread and read something along the lines of
'you want an unaffected signal going into your computer so you can do all the mixing there'
why is this? whats wrong with tweaking a bit of eq to your desire before it gets to the comp? I'm getting more and more confused every day.

Check out the Zoom R16. It gets great reviews. I personally use Presonus stuff, but the only thing that they have by way of mixer is the StudioLive series. :)

Be cautious of USB mixers. Some only send a two channel stereo mixdown to your computer.

I've only spent 30 minutes looking at the r16 and I think I'm already convinced, seems pretty perfect for what I need. thanks for the suggestion

EQ done during tracking can't be undone later while mixing. EQ done after tracking can be removed or altered in the mix.

You might want to get a 100% analog mixer (no USB out) and connect all of the bus outs from the mixer into an 8 or 16 channel interface (depending on how many busses are on the mixer). This will give you more flexibility, possibly better quality, and more room to upgrade.
