NL5 keep the pics coming. I'm tempted to steal your cloud idea for my drum booth Mwahahaha. :D

Looks great!

Hats off for transforming the ordinary into a very contemporary, creatively inviting space.

That “Wow factor” is not easily won and yet you seem to have pulled it off very simply.

I’m in line to copy your cloud design as well, any chance (When you have the time) we can get a better look at the frame, facing and fixtures?

-Kudos-

i like the cloud.. looks effin sweet...

wont those corner boxes adversely tweek the bass of your monitors?

How? They are front ported, and will be isolated from the cabinet.

I'll have something up within the next couple days - very simple design. I don't have access to the pc with pics on it - as soon as I do, I'll show you how it was constructed - I hope I have pics of the empty frame.... :)

my theory with the bass problem from the monitors... was that whey are too close (even inside the wall)... even if they are decoupled i would think that big box would act as a cabinet to boom some bass... might be too boomy...

but hey i'm no ethan winer !!!! this is just a theory

Hmmmmm. I am certainly no expert, but I followed designs from John Sayers forum. Nearly every studio I have been in has soffit mounted speakers. Not all of them use them - a lot of them put ns10's right on the console and mix thru those. Eventually, I plan on putting a second pair of monitors on the console bridge.

I will say this though, the bass response is WAY WAY WAY better than it was - very even in my listening tests. I used to get some booming bass notes, and others that would be almost non-existant. Now, all the notes are dead even to my ear (I am sure there are still some variation, but It sure sounds pretty smooth).

The highs bothered me at first, but as I deadend the rear wall (as John said would be critical), the highs became very clear and focused. It really is sounding quite amazing. :)

Almost done with the front wall.....

Well I'll assume you filled the voids with insulation? That will dissipate the bass and the front baffles will also keep from the sounds emanating off the speakers creating more problems with the mids, highs, and bass.

I would imagine (as you mentioned) that it would sound WAY better then without the soffits.

Lookin' sweet man. Have you tested anything yet?

Yep. Sounds amazing. Bass is soooooooo even now. The highs kinda freaked me out at first, but I put all my gobos in the back (rear wall is not started yet), and it cleared right up.

It actually looks way better than the pictures! :D

I have to do something with my room soon. The bass is terrible here the way things are right now. Imaging is pretty bad too. I'm just watching yours come together of dreaming of my day. Then I have to learn how to mix!

if only i had the skills, time and money... this is exactly what i would do... amazing transformation!

Thanks for all the comments!!! :D

I am building a 24 space In-wall mounted rack this weekend - wish me luck - I am a bit nervous about building it, but it should be pretty cool if it comes out somewhat ok.

Pic's to follow........

Bravo!

The room is looking fantasic.

You must be dying to finish it up and get down to mixing.

OK, ok, ok....

It's super simple. I went to Lowes and got 3.5" mdf trim. Take that and make a frame exactly the size of your 703. Then frame the frame with another strip of the mdf trim 90 degrees from the first. Here is a pic. If it's still unclear, i can try and explain better. I also bought a 12 volt halogen light kit from lowes. Drilled 5 holes 2 1/8" in the trim and mounted the lights.
