I am in the market for a stand-alone digital recording system under $2000. I am still going to edit and master on my computer but I want to be able to track our shows.

Which one of these would you buy & why? Thanks in advance for your input.

Yamaha AW16G

Yamaha AW2816

Korg D1600

Fostex VF160

Roland VS1824CD

Of course I can only speak to the ones I've actually used.

1. Yamaha AW16G - 16 Track, 12 faders, pan and EQ are controlled by one knob for all tracks. Nice effects. Separate Stereo tracks (8 total per song) for mixdown for burn to CD. 20Gig Hard Drive, Internal CD Drive. SCENE memory to automate mix. Good mic preamps.

Ease of use 1-10 = 6 (learning curve).

2. Korg D1600 - 16 Track, 16 faders, 16 pan knobs, TOUCH SCREEN , 40gig hard drive, internal CD Drive. Excellent effects. SCENE memory to automate mix.
Mixdown to virtual tracks on tracks 1 & 2 for burn to CD. Fair mic preamps.

Ease of use 1-10 = 9 (Touch Screen makes for shorter learning curve).

I own the D1600, my friend got the AW16G. I would have gone for the Yamaha but the ease of use factor kicked in because of the touch screen.

Wedsr1, thanks for the reply.

I went with the Korg. I ordered it the other day from MF and it should be here by this weekend. I can't wait.

I'll let you know how its going after I play with it for a few days.
I might have some questions for you soon, so keep an eye out for me.

I'll also check out those sites you mentioned; I'm sure I'll need them.

Thanks Again, The Professor
