I NEED SOME HELP. I AM GOING TO UPGRADE FROM A MD8 TO HARD DISK RECORDING. I LIKE THE NEW KORG D1600 AND I WAS ABOUT TO BUY IT AND THE SALESMAN SAID I SHOULD CONSIDER THE DIGI-001 WITH PRO TOOLS AND A COMPUTER. I HAVE NEVER USED A COMPUTER TO RECORD WITH. I LIKE THE IDEA OF ALL THE POWER AND THE NEAT EDITING FEATURES BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOOSE THE "FEEL" OF FADERS AND BUTTONS.I WANT TO RECORD PRO SOUNDING STUFF.PLEASE HELP ME I AM READY TO BUY SOMETHING MONTY

I don't think you're ready for a DAW if you can even figure out the damn CAPS LOCK key.

You need to figure out a couple of things first. Will your current computer run Protools LE without any upgrades (ie memory, hard drive etc)? If not, are you willing to upgrade your computer considering the extra cost? Protools is great, i'd recommend recording on your computer (look in to other stuff too, check around here and see what people are saying about different recording software and you'll get an idea of what you can expect). There's no doubt that you'll be up and running with a D1600 a lot quicker, but if you have a good computer, recording/editing software and a good soundcard will take you farther and you can costumize your system a lot more.

Good luck,

micmac

thanks micmac, i'll do that.if i go with pro-tools i'll get a new computer just for the studio so i should be ok. AND DOLEMITE, CHECK OUT THIS WEB PAGE WWW.PREPARATIONH.ARGH!!! MONTY

Just look into the pro's and cons of both solutions... They are plenty.

And then decide.

I chose for a stand-alone unit, merely for portability. Use it to record my concerts, demo's at location... And I don't like to sit behind a computer after 8 hours of digital terror at the job.

If you don't need the portability, and you don't hate watching that monitor then you should really go the computerway. More possibilities, easily upgraded, software plug-ins, the list doesn't end...

Thanks Roel, This is one of the hardest choices i've had to make in a long time.i think the Korg is out because i can't find one.I'm now considering the Roland 1880 for a little bit more money.Does anyone have some input about the 1880? thanks monty

LOL Dolemite. Looks like we have a new funny man on board.

The only stand alone that could compete with the digi 001 package is the yamaha 44 something. It uses the mixer from the 02r( which rocks) otherwise the digi 001 bitch slaps around any other stand alones.
