I am going to do a mixture recording/mixing room in my basement.

I was planning on doing a separate control room, but decided I didn't have enough space. I was going to put wood flooring in the control room, becuase people said that was good for mixing...

I am wondering, if I did like a 7x7 block of wood flooring (feet)....and put my desk and such there....and the rest of the room was carpet..would that be any benefit?

Or should I just carpet the whole room?

i can't afford to wood floor the whole room.

I was in a similar predicament - after some investigation I used a hardwood blockboard for the drum room- a plywood like board with nice grain on the outside of the board and hardwood blocks inside. This takes floor varnish very well and cost £19 a 8' by 4 ' sheet - cheap.

In my tiny new control room I used carpet but it definately (for me) gives a more lifeless sound. I may do this out in blockboard inthe future

:)

Cheers

I'd go with the wood wes. Especially around the work/console area it works well as usually the carpet wears out in that area with chairs moving around.

A nice option is cork as it wears well yet is soft and warm to walk on. It has a bit of give so objects dropped don't always break.

You lay down a masonite sheet underlay and then cork on top and finish in two pack varnish.

hnmmmmm....intersting..

what kind of asobtion (sound) does cork have?

I am trying to determine the ideal reverb time for this room...

definately going to do the block of wood/cork..whatever I decide on.

Right now I am thinking a 1.5-2 sec reverb time...(original - 60db)

Trying to find that perfect medium..for recording and mixing in the same room.

thanks for the info thus far.
