Hey all,

Just wondering what you think is the better Vocal mike, I can get the NT-K heaps cheaper then the T3. I heard that the NT-K was pritty crap and that it colored the sound too much.

if you are gonna chunk out that much $$$, maybe you wanna try them out first........

also try out the Marshall MXLv69 and v77....

and the NTK isnt crap.....

Can't help with the comparison. But... I can tell you that the NTK is a far cry from the alleged refuse. I think all tube mics color the sound some. Isn't that what they are supposed to do? The NTK is a very quiet mic that can produce some incredibly detailed recording. If you have a boomy voice you may have to tame it a bit. It has really helped me with getting a vocal in front of a mix, big time. Very nice for acoustic guitar recording too.

Better for who's vocal mic... yours, mine, Bill's, Sally's, Jake's, Karen's or who's... and on what song? The point is... you'll need to audition the mic's for yourself to know which one YOU like best... and that may change with different songs.

Yeah what they said. Try em out as well as lots of others. I own a NTK and it is one of my "go to" vocal mics. It is also great on guitar too. I usually end up liking it over my Neumann TLM 103 for vocals...of course that depends on the vocalist, but the two have a simliar sound but the NTK just has that "smoothness" that makes it a great choice.

The NTK does not color the sound too much. It colors it a lot less than most tube mics in fact. Who told you that it was crap, and what's their IQ?

Note, this post contains content deemed as "SPAM" by the RO police. Rated MB18 (Message Board). Post is know to contain prices of competing microphones posted by a person with vested interest in one of the said microphone companies.

A fair comparison would be between the TB1 ($249 Street) and the NTK ($449 Street) as both are cardioid only tube mics, whereas the T3 is a multi pattern mic.

I'm going to have to use my Spam disclaimer from now on. You have to admit thats some funny stuff.

LOL:D

Don

that NTK can easily be found for ALOT less than $449.......you guys at SP should hire me to keep tabs on competitor pricing......:D

I pulled the price off the 8th Street website, keeping tabs on anyone outside of our office has been hard lately just way to much going on trying to pull together everything we have planned.

It would be a fair comparison if the TB1 were in the same league as the NTK!:D

Comingin2nd,

Are we to presume that you have used both mics?

Five of the 13 songs on the current project were tracked with an NTK. It is not crap. It is a very useful tube mic that needs to be warmed up well to sound good. I've never used a T-3, but I'd like to.-Richie

you've gotta let the NTK warm up. i let it go for at least 30 minutes before i start tracking. it also must go through a good pre to do it justice-goes for any mic though. i've run it through neutral pre's (RNP), colored (UA 610), and in between (DMP3) and it sounds great through any. good detail, warmth (oh no buzz word alert), nice highs, smooth lows, and very pronounced mids. if you want a slightly exagerated mid and high (but not overly exagerated) check out the NTK. i give you my worthless guarantee that you won't be dissapointed.

exactly why you should hire me.....i CLEARLY have too much free time on my hands and i work pretty cheap......

btw, BPM quotes $389 on the NTK.....on payroll, I could probably dig up cheaper......:D

Come on guys, lets get off Justin's back. I think Justin Hyatt is cool... heck he even answers MY questions. I know some of you are just joking, but I bet Justin doesn't find it very funny. Thanks

Who's on Justin's back?

Oh, I can take it, being one of the "Generation X" kids I've been messing around the net since I was 12. I've been in loads of flame wars on countless message boards about tons of other things. All the insults you can dig up wouldn't phase me a bit I've had everything, and death threats shouted at me already. Because of it I've deleloped some thick skin and a twisted sense of humor.
But honestly Gidge, I couldn't waste time looking for the best price on the NTK and 8th Street's site is easy to browse though so I went there. And besides the high price he has listed sure does make the TB1 price look good ;) And I'm sure we could find better things for you to do than dig up prices if we put you on payroll.
