I'm young in age but have been playing for quite a while, I play at a local church with Gretsch drums , and Zildjian A Custom cymbals, is there any way to make them quieter........ i already have plexiglass up but it is in the cornor so the wall behind me makes the sound extremely loud!!!I dont have enough expirence to know this kinda of stuff :confused:
 
you could get some sound absorbtion foam.

google it and check out the studio buliding forum. :D
 
Loud for you or the congregation?

You do wear ear plugs right?
 
Playing with HotRod type sticks instead of normal drum sticks can help reduce your volume too. Might be worth a try.
 
Congrigation, for me when i practice with our band the are a little ringy but there fine, but the congregation is the one that i get complaints from
 
Use hot rods or bamboo sticks. Plus, you'll able to do those really fast Carter Beauford rolls!
 
I always use light sticks like 7As in church and I try to stay controlled - that way I'm not too loud for even the smaller church I play in. Hot-rods are quiet but they don't sound as good as sticks.

You can practice control by playing a fast exercise as it feels comfortable and then trying to get quieter without getting slower, and then louder again without getting faster - also good for the rest of your drumming. Then just play quietly in church.

And wear ear plugs - a little damage over a long time is still a lot of damage! If you can't afford moulded ones then the foam ones are cheap and effective.

maybe don't hit the drums so hard? :D

technique is what's called for here, more than anything. barely touch the drums and cymbals with the sticks--don't lay into em.

and try those pro mark "lightning rods" (or one of the various variants). they tend to help too.

Get an electric kit if the drumming is too loud, for a church I'd think they'd be de rigeur by now.

Playing quieter works nice but you wind up with a different sound than if you're putting some force behind your strokes.
