The direct outs on this board are unbalenced arn't they? Can anyone see why soundcraft would do this?! It seems ludicrous to me when the main use of them is going to be feeding tape or a soundcard or whatever. Its the only thing putting me off this mixer. Also the cinch connecters on the aux returns, why?! M8 mark 2 anyone???!

I dunno. I have an M8 and have no complaints about any of it, other than the pres get noisy during that last 5% of gain. No problems otherwise. Blanaced isnt going to make a huge difference, especially going 5 feet. Twill be allright.

Cheers dude, are the pre's in it nice? One of the reasons i want one is to provide some half decent pre's for drums. Anything else you can say about it??

are you sure that the direct outs are unbalanced?
whenever i record something an the PPM meter on my M8 hits exactly 0db,
then my soundcard is going into red, i have to turn the volume down there,
and WOW, why would you need the last 5% of the gain???? what are you trying to record, footsteps of ants?

if the M8 had sweepable himid AND sweepable lomid + 1/4" jacks as aux returns it would be my total favorite little mixer, i like it alot but is just too compact...a mixwizard will replace it one day

I own a M8 and the Channel Direct Outs are unbalanced. The Aux Outputs are balanced.

There are a few other things that are weird about the layout of this mixer.

However, overall I am very happy with it. It's super quiet and has some great e.q. features.

I've used the Digital out feature several times with great results. The 4 Aux sends really come in handy for my applications.

It's a good bang for you buck.

Unbalanced does not mean that it can't be +4, it purely means that it uses 2 wires instead of 2 + shield.

and what is the "general" rule for mixers,
do most mixers have unbalanced direct outs, or is it special for the M8 ?

i think they may be unbalanced from what i read.

What have you read?? Reviews, the soundcraft website, all say otherwise.
