In short.... I have just installed my m-audio 2496 card into my new computer....

on playback of audio files/cds, all I hear is static/computer noises.... also, when I move my mouse around or open programs, I hear the computer noises change sound, as if the sound is reacting to mouse movements.... weird!

The audio is faintly coming through.... the music can be heard way under the noise...

what the hell is this?

considering smashing the computer with a hammer and buying a masterlink!

is the sound card on its own irq ?

try moving it to another pci slot

:(I tried it on both PCI slots... This mother board came with 2 pci and 1 pci express...

Also, I have tried two different cards, 2496 and a 1010LT.... same problem with both...

I also disabled the onboard realtek in the bios... still nothing....

the motherboard is an ASUS P5E-VM DO

Pain in the ass....

Cards work fine on my other PC...

I really want to vent here... This is my 3rd PC.... Nothing but problems...

Asus make good boards so there's no reason those cards shouldn't work perfectly.

1. Are you sure you've got the latest drivers? DL them from the m-audio site. Make sure you get the vista ones if you're running vista.

2. Go to your device manager and make sure it's not sharing an irq with a usb hub or something

running XP...

I checked the device manager and it appears that the card is sharing irq with three other devices.... However, I can't change them... The options are greyed-out!

I've tried it on both PCI slots.....

Would a firewire interface bypass this bullshitty problem?
