I wouldn't worry that much about the interface. Definitely don't save up for an Mbox. You can get a fast track pro at guitar center for 99 bucks right now. And the pre amps on the fast track pro are not bad at all, it comes with phantom power for your condenser mic. You want to spend the most money on the best mic you can, I'd honestly consider the interface last. Even if the interface's preamp's weren't great, there's always the option to get better pre amps and plug them into your interface in the future.
Some of the extremely cheap pre amps do not make much difference. Such as the small art pre amps and the bluetube. But, I just spent 299 on an MPA ii PRO reference series and that thing sounds very good.
I'd look into saffire interfaces if you're looking for a good pre amp already in the interface. I just bought a saffire pro 40. The pre amps are very good on it. The smaller versions I imagine have the same pre amps.
Although, I must say I used the fast track pro for years and years. And it never done me wrong. The only reason I upgraded to the saffire was for more inputs. The fast track pro by m audio has 2 mic inputs and 2 line or instrument inputs. It has rca out or TRS out for monitors, headphone out with it's own control for headphone volume.
If you want pro tools LE, I believe you have to get the fast track pro that cost 150 dollars. I probably would go with reaper or something. If Reaper is still as it was when I was using it, it was free, I could keep using it and they asked for a donation. I hear that they might be charging now but it's only like 40 dollars and you're going to get a good robust DAW.
