Hello!

A few may say "I can't take another thread about these mics", but in the december issue of the UK-magazine "Sound On Sound" there's a review about both of 'em. Since to me S.O.S. is the bible (we don't have something similar to this in Germany) and I can't buy it over here (even in "International Press"-shops) I am curious what they had to say about it. You can't read the review online yet, so maybe there is a UK-boardie that can tell us about S.O.S.-review...? :)

SOS is fairly easy to find here in the Netherlands but it costs €9,95 per issue which I find a bit steep for any magazine so I don't buy one regularly.. But this sounds like something to take at least a peek at.

Yeah, I know it's expensive. But I still think it's worth the price, because whenever you decide to buy new gear you skip through the old issues of SOS you've got and you will find reviews you didn't notice before, because at that time they weren't of any interest of you. And I've never seen a review in it that seemed badly executed or written, so one of the first things I'll do when considering buying audio gear is to search their database online. That's why I'm very curious about their review of the SP Mics and if they're join the army of people that praise the quality of these.

I really recommend that you subscribe, - even if it's to the electronic version.

In fact - the electronic version is fantastic - all the paper goes to my house in the UK, and I can read the electronic version from my work-place (France)

:)

Cheers

I look forward to receiving my monthly subscription. The hardcopy version has the distinction of being printed on high quality paper, which is unusual for a recording rag and it really holds up well over time (if you don't spill coffee all over it...damn). It's pricey but I still find useful things each month and, so far, they don't seem to regurgitate the same products all the other mags are reviewing or repackage old articles with a fresh coat of paint. It's also written so as to neither speak over its readers heads nor down to them as if they were morons.

I think it tends to take a bit more of the high road in terms of it's reviewing ethics. I'm sure there's some fluff in there from time-to-time, but the reviews seem to be pretty honest, for the most part. Of course, no mag is going to be honest all the time, so it's important to be able to read between the lines, and SOS seems to make it pretty easy to do so. Their lines are pretty widely spaced apart, and the occasional writing between them quite legible. :D

I'd agree with all the recent posts. Still a subscription in Euro costs 60 pounds, which is nearly 130 Euros which would have been about 260 DM. Quite a lot of money for a university student, who is a victim of gear lust... :D
So, nobody's here who won't even tell us if SOS liked the mics? :) As I said, I'd buy that issue if I could find it somewhere over here. The some to have stopped selling the mag in Germany.

Would some one with a subscription be nice enough to email me JUST THIS ARTICLE? Maybe just copy it and paste it to the body of your e-mail or something?? I too am a poor college student, but I am about to get a C-1 or C-3 as an early X-mas gift and would like to read this before Monday, Dec 2 when the order would be placed.

If you would be nice enough I'll hook you up somehow someday. Come on it will give you good Karma.

Why don't you email Alan Hyatt? I'm sure he's got it handy somewhere if it has to do with his mics. If he doesn't, then it probably wasn't a very good one. :D

Actually, I do have it. I got a copy today in fact from a studio owner in the UK who owns our mics. It was good review, but not like the American reviews. My only beef was that he claimed they were an off the shelf mic, and they are not. Other than that, he said they were good mics and that you would acheive great results with them, but he did not rave about them like other reviewers did in Studio Sound (now out of business), and Audio Media Europe, but no big deal...

I do love the British writing style. It is so different from the USA writers. Anyway, I can and will post it up on my site next week after Thanksgiving so everyone can read it. It does not bother me that the review was average. I can take the good ones, and I can take the average ones. We have not had a bad one yet, but I suspect if there was a reviewer out there to write it, Chessrock would be at the top of the list...:D
