Sound Forge 5.0 for $129

I was in Best Buy today and noticed on the software shelf SoundForge 5.0, on sale, $129. At first I thought it had to be LE, but its the whole thing. Isn't the list for this thing something like $400. I also see that it comes with a bunch of their Direct X plug-ins included. Are these real DX plugins that work in other stuff (Like Cakewalk 9)? If so it would seem like a deal....

They had it at $99 a week or two ago (here in San Diego). Maybe you can still get it for that much if you are persistent.

But even at $129 it is a terrific buy!

It's easily worth twice that much. If I didn't already have it I'd rush out and buy it for $129. Suggested retail is $495, street price of $299.

Sound Forge does everything from audio editing to audio processing, including eq, compression, fades, verb, gating, dynamics, and much more. It also includes Acoustic Mirror digital reverb plug-in. It also comes with FX 1, 2, and 3 DX plug-ins (18 in all). Recording Magazine did a very thorough review in their September 2001 issue:

"Sound Forge 5.0 is a worthy successor to previous versions. It has features and versatility up the kazoo...and offers potential for incremental improvements in sound quality from its predecessors." (It now supports 24/96).

Yes, the DirectX plug-ins in Sound Forge should work just fine in any program that supports DirectX plug-ins (Cakewalk, SONAR, etc.)

Cool, I'll think I'll buy it just for the plug-ins.

Of Course I went back to buy it on Sunday and it had come off sale, now it's $149. So I think I'll look arround a few days to see if i can find it cheaper.

One thing I noticed - It has a regular size software box, but when you left the box and shake it it feels completely empty. I guess there is a single CD with no jewel case. No manual. Cheap.... but no worse than downloading it.

Windows 98?

I noticed the System Requirements list Windows 98SE. Does that mean it won't work with regular Windows 98?

Anyone using it with reguar Windows 98?

I popped for SF5 when they had the $99 sale before it was released. Great product and I'm SOOO glad I got it.

Be advised that many of the DirectX effects in SF5 work great in SF5 as off-line effects but will give you trouble if you try to use them in other applications (for example, Acoustic Mirror is unuseable in any other app due to the intense calculations it has to perform --- not that I mind, it's incredible.)
