Sony TC-366 Reel to Reel Motor issue

First of all, I'm new to the forum so I'd like to say hello!! Now to the issue I'm having.

I am finally getting around to using my TC-366, which was my Dads, and the reel spindles turn just fine without reels on them (Play, FF and Rewind) but when I put reels on them, it will play fairly well but not FF or Rewind. When I switch to FF or Rewind with reels on them, they stop. I can take the reels off and go through the different speeds and it works just fine. Could it be the drive motor or the belts? Any information concerning this matter will be greatly appreciated.

It could be the belts or even motors, but the first thing to check is that the tape is good and the path is clean.

It's unbelievable how shedding tape or a dirty path can make a machine grind to a halt.

Check the heads and the posts and see if there's 'dandruff' coming off the tape too.
If there's any dirty or grime on the machine get her cleaned with the appropriate materials.

This would usually be accompanied by squealing and screeching noises, but not always.
 
I'd suspect loose belts or worn rubber edged cam drive wheels before suspecting the motor. That's a 50 year old machine. The rubber parts are undoubtedly shot at this stage of the game.

Thanks Steenamaroo and Ghost, I gave it a thorough cleaning before I tried using it, since it has sat for quite awhile. The heads and posts are in very good shape and clean as a whistle!! I was thinking the belts myself which would be the cheaper to see if it solves the issue. With that in mind, is there a good place to get parts for that RTR that has reasonable prices and shipping rates??
 
If you poke around on eBay, it's fairly easy to find a full belt replacement kit for reasonable prices.
