Not the whole company. Just the Products: Sound Forge, Acid and Vegas, which AFAIC is SF to me.

Oh well. I guess we can hope that SONY will support the programs we already own.

Ha!

Maybe Sony will pull and Apple and say "We will no longer support these products on Mac. Sorry."

Any of them on Mac, anyway?

Sony is a respectable enough media company... I doubt they'll screw the products up that much. I wonder why Sonic Foundry sold them.

I have yet to buy a bad product from Sony and welcome their entrance into the market. I don't work for Sony, but to me they seem to be one of the last big companies that actually delivers products that live up to the promise of their marketing. Their attention to quality is a welcome element in the audio software market and I think now Cakewalk has a serious competitor to contend with so hopefully this will also get them back on their toes! It will be very interesting to see where Sony takes this.

I am a big fan of both companies so it seems on the surface to be a great marriage.

I see you haven't bought a VAIO desktop. It's a wonder how they can get a computer with such a fast processor to perform so poorly.

I don't mean to be bad mouthing SONY but, i bought a pair of there headphones. Gave $20 bucks for em' and they sound like shit. They have something in them that alters the song and The sound that comes though them sounds too bassy and alot of mids and highs are cut. But i do hope that SONY keeps the Acid Program going, if not make it better.

I just ordered acid Pro 4.0

I'm not a hater of SONY. I've owned two of their cameras, three of their VCRs, their receiver, three of their TVs, a CD changer, their headphones and I love almost all of it.

My main fear is that they won't bother to support the reactivation of this software once I want to migrate it to another PC when I buy another PC.

What makes me think they will frustrate this effort?

Because it doesn't make them any money and because they can.

I figgered someone would. I was thinking Microsoft...

...I think i like Sony better.

So now:
SF=Sony
Logic=Apple
Steinberg=Pinnacle

smaller and smaller playing field. Should be interesting.

The loop libraries too? And the CD-Burner?

Other than that, the rest of their stuff looked like large-scale service packages to the movie industry.

True, I haven't bought a VAIO desktop. I prefer to build my own and they seem to be charging a ridiculous premium for their computers, especially the laptops! I also have never bought software from Sony so we'll see.......but every camera, tv, and stereo i've bought from them so far have been excellent. We'll see if that translates to audio software as well.

I second this...... what is the use of a product if you can't use it.

I was always disappointed that this was the case.. ie the registration. Personally I bought Sound Forge in Australia, at the time it was my first piece of 'real' audio software... when i get home I find out that if I don't 'activate' it in a certain period of time I can't use it. When I sent the registration via the Internet it took 2 days to get back to me. I know they give you 30 days to register, but if there isn't a way to register we are all stuffed.

They might want to think about giving an Registration Key that is User specific as opposed to PC specific.

Gee, a whole $20 for headphones and they sounded bad??? Can't imagine why. Try the 7506's. Best cans on the market.

I used a Sony VAIO as my first DAW and it worked like a champ. No I don't work for Sony either, but I agree that they are one of the last good big companies.

Well, it says "Worlds finest headphones..." at the top of the page so it must be true! Kidding, I'm kidding!

Actually, I've heard that Grado is more of an Audiophile's headphone. They sound really niiiiice but don't necessarily give a flat response compared to the Sonys or AKGs. I wasn't trying to proclaim that Sony is the end-all-be-all. Obviously monitoring with headphones or monitors is certainly a matter of preference.

One advantage to narrowing the playing field is compatability... if a smaller group has the larger market share the likelyhood that they'll communicate among eachother to keep certain standards afloat is much greater... at least until they get the attention of Microsoft... and get asimilated...

I agree - my VAIO is a 2.4 machine but runs slower than my old 770 mhz machine.

Also, I have purchased several Sony products over the years and they just don't hold up.
