I'm just about to order a Beyer M88tg, is there any great difference in sound between this and the straight M88? I know the tg has a stronger head shell for live use.

The coveted one is not the TG version. I got no idea on the differences in sound.

I have an M88 "Classic" - numbered, comes in the cherrywood box, matte chrome finish, blah blah - and a TG. I'm not able to discern a difference in sound between the two.

Many thanks both....i've just ordered the M88TG its more ready avilable in the uk, and its perhaps a bit more robust for use with my band as well as for recording.
Best Regards

TG stands for "Tour Group", I believe. They were the versions of the mics produced for live stage use.
