Hi, using SONAR 2.0 XL, I wanted a sound card with low latency and bought the Audiotrak Maya.
Just installed it under Win 98 SE (and the WDM drivers were installed alright) but when I use Reason or the software synths I still get quite high latency, ie it´s not possible to play with the song.

( have set Maya to the lowest latency possible.)

However, there are some oddities in the setup that might cause this problem.

1. The Maya doesn´t have a MIDI interface (one can buy a separate interface) so I was told I could use the MIDI with my SB Live 1024. Could this cause the delay?
Also, the IRQ has been selected to 9 for both cards, and the Maya control desk actually gives me a "IRQ conflict!" message.

However, the Device Manager says there are no conflicts and I can´t seem to be able to change these settings.

2. In Reason, what audio driver should I select? There I can choose between Maya Wave and Asio 2.0 - Maya and a bunch of others. This also seems to effect latency.

A bit confused here, hope someone can help.

I hope it´s not the computer, can´t afford an upgrade...

PIII 1GHz, 128 MB, 40 GB 7200 rpm

...just drop a few words.

...It's the IRQ setting. Can you tweak your BIOS to let you configure IRQ's manualy ?

...It's the RAM. You're gonna hate this :( , but you'll need much more RAM to do softsynth things. Say 512MB or more as much as you can afford.

...I don't own MAYA, so I'm not sure about the drivers, but I think SONAR won't give you a benefit of ASIO driver...

Thanks, I´ve planned on getting more RAM for LONG, so maybe it´s finally time...

I´ll see if I can change to manual IRQ settings in the BIOS, I´m just afraid to screw things up even more...

I have the Mayas big brother Inca88. A friend of mine has the Maya44....

My thoughts are:
1. Are you running Win2000 or XP? Are you running ACPI? I tried disabeling ACPI when I was using the Inca together with the SB Live! and always got the "IRQ Conflict". I tried all the tweaks, nothing helped. So, I installed ACPI again and it was better. BUT: Audiotraks card doesen't play very good with Creatives card. Many users can tell you that Creatives drivers isn't good, and will cause conflicts with other cards. I ripped out the SB Live, bought a M-Audio 2x2 USB midi-device, and it works without any problems... (well, most of the time... ;) )

2. In Reason, always use ASIO-drivers for lowest latency.

Hope this helps!

Hi moskus, thanks for your tips. I actually was running 98SE, but I noted that Cakewalk´s home page actually says the WDM drivers only work under ME, 2000 and XP...

Had a friend over and we did an install of XP on my second partition, it seems to work much better, the conflict is gone and the latency is much lower :)

However, I might still need some extra RAM added to my 128 MB...

In Reason, I´ll go with the ASIO drivers.

Thanks again
