Hi Cakewalk folks,
They just announced the new Cakewalk product
is called Sonar ( actually I knew that for months).
It is on the website now, and will be shipping
in March, and it is only 99 bucks for
users of Cakewalk pro 9 deluxe, which I am.
( I mean to upgrade of course)

Its about time. The specs that they mention are
vague, but it looks very cool, and they finally
got their act together about Led meters.

Go check it out. http://www.cakewalk.com David

Looks good David - I like the volume/pan etc lines and the meters on everything.
Live input monitoring of DX effects!! YES!
I was sure Cakewalk would come up with something new, and it looks like they have.
The more I look at it the better it gets, guitar fretboard as well!!
Can't wait!!
cheers
John

This, I presume, is Cakewalk 10?

Seems strange to change the name of such a widely-used, successful product...

Actually, it's ProAudio 10 . . . I guess. Has a pro-tools look about it. Great!! Another toy to play with :D

Its actually Cakewalk's attempt to match Steinberg's
Nuendo. Sure, we all know it is just cakewalk 10,
but it sure sounds cool. David

Pro Audio 10, that's what I meant to say... I love marketing guys -- SONAR, fer chrissakes, like we're going to use it to watch for approaching submarines or something... I kind of feel bad that the name "Pro Audio" is being shelved in favor of something new... I kind of like the old name - simple, direct, obvious what it does. Well, whatever, I'll be plunking down my $99 pretty soon.

Dilbert this week has a great "thread" on ad agencies going on...

Wow, live monitoring of FX, and automatable FX - two things that were on my wishlist.

The only question left is when do you think they'll release the "bug-free" version?

It also has ACID-like loop manipulation tools... the upgrade to the XL version includes a lot of goodies for an extra $100 ($199 overall), such as full versions of the Revalver guitar amp simulator plug-in, the Tassman softsynth, lots of loops and some Sound Fonts...

dachay2tnr, the answer to "when do you think they'll release the 'bug-free' version?" is, of course, as with all software, "never."
:)

:D

Yeah, it sounds GREAT!

I am definitely purchasing it.

SPIN :)

This thing looks resource intensive. I hope I don't need a new computer just to run it.

I probably will...

I can't wait!

Mr Lip,
my thoughts exactly.

I got a Celeron 566
128megs RAM
15 gig Hard Drive
Echo Darla24 Soundcard
Windows 98

I think this might not work. Someone Please
tell me they think it will? I finally got
my system working perfectly, and dont want to
change a thing. Cheers, David

I don't see why you'd have a problem with specs like those.

I'm on a P-II 350MHz!

I'll not buy it....

Until I see that they have fixed my big beefs:

I know of no other software that I have to click through so many stinking windows to use! I hate it! I don't want and audio window and a piano window and a clips window and a mixer window etc etc etc. I want one stinking window!!

The other thing that simply must happen is to clear the drop down menues of all the baggage they have accumalated over 10 versions. If I have to look at "-3 db" again I am going to puke! Do you hear me!?! Puke!

I'm better now.

p.s. I must admit the pic on their site looks tantilizing!

The Facts

I saw it the demonstration at the NAMM convention and here are some of the features.

No more window flipping the audio view is gone and everything is done through the main window. Level metering on each track. The ability to zoom in on one track only. Automatic cross fades and adjustable fade ins and outs from the corner of each individual track. Recording automation of parameter from Direct X 8.0 plug-ins. (you can automate the rate at which the reverb will decay or sustain etc.) Also their own CD burning ability.

Oh and as for the latency they were using a SB Live card and the tracks were muting before graphical button popped back up and they also moved tracks around while it way playing back tracks without the hiccup.

Very impressive I can't wait to get my hands on it.
