anybody know if there is a special setting for using 2 delta 1010's in sonar xl 2?
im using WinMe, sonar xl 2, and 2 delta 1010's. all instruments go through a mackie 1604vlz.
heres how its setup-
chl 1-8 from mackie go into delta #1 ins 1-8. chl 9-14 from mackie go into delta #2 ins 1-6.
playback is from chl 1-2 out from delta #1 into aux returns of mackie.
delta cards are synched by spidf cable from 1 out into 2 in. #1 is master. also same setup for wordclcok cable on back of breakout box.

Well, excuse me, but you got realy precious setup up there. 2 Delta 1010 and SONAR. That's  . But why would you ruin your beautifull setup with something like....

WIN ME ?

Maybe its cause you are using inputs 1/2 as outputs? :)
James, what the hell are you talking about? heh

update----
now i do have momentary playback in sonar, but the sound stops less than 1/2 a second into the song and repeats the sound at that point even though the line that goes from bar to bar continues to move across the song.
anybody help with this?

I'm a Delta 1010 / Sonar 2.2 user, albeit I only have one Delta 1010 you lucky dog.

BTW, I would dump Win ME and get XP Pro. My setup is very stable with XP, and I had some problems with large audio files under ME.

On with your question. Sorry to answer a question with a question, but what do you have setup as the playback timing master in Sonar?

playback and record timing master are both set to multichannel 1/2 of the first delta.
and i will through XP in in a minute. i understand that its much better. but i never had any problem running sonar in WinMe for a few years-until now.
is it possible WinMe doesnt support multiple soundcards?

All I know - re Sonar, is that you only enable the delta drivers with "multichannel" names in Sonars Audio drivers selector and pick a channel from the master card for the playback and recording timing masters. You should be able to install wdm drivers for ME but as I have XP I don't know which of the Delta drivers you can d/load would be best for you.
Anyhow, check the driver selection stuff before throwing ME out but I have to agree that XP is better for audio. If you change to XP, the best drivers are the ones with (I think) 29x12 in the name. Previous drivers for XP apparently prevented multi card operation - according to a long running thread on the Sound-on-Sound pc forum.

Jim- hmmm, havent done that one yet. i noticed that all of the drivers were enabled in the window. lemme give that a try. ill get back to you in a minute. thanks!

no good. i enabled only the drivers that say "mutlichannel". same skipping problem occurs. do i only enable output multichannel drivers on one or both? i assume both. and what about spidf? should that be enabled in there as well do you think?

moskus- thanks for that thread. im gonna give that a thorough reading right now!!! maybe ill get something out of it.:) because im really getting annoyed with this.

time, i have- its the patience, i dont.
maybe ill just pop XP in there and foloow jims advice.

I would do that.... WinME is nothing but horrible for a DAW!

ok, im done playing games with this thing. i went to Maudio's site and saw a driver that says it works with multi delta. the one that jimY said. so i am now in the process of installing WinXP Pro.
ill update you guys as soon as its finished.
as usual-thanks for all the input everyone.:)

ok, winXp Pro is installed. i installed the drivers recommended by JimY and i am getting sound. i am able to record also.
so-it is working again. thank you!!!
but now my latest concern is this delta control panel. i forgot how it works because i havent used it in a million years.
JIM Y-what do i keep it set on in the patchbay/router tab?
H/W ins across the board? (i can record this way...)
or
WAV OUT across the board? (i can playback this way, but cant record...)

im back to my initial problem when i first got the delta.
but at least its working again and everybody likes me now that ive got Win XP installed...:) :)

Hey, don't put too much faith in me. The only knowledge I have of multi card is secondhand. I only have a Delta Audiophile in my pc but I do use XP & Sonar and the Delta drivers are the same (but look simpler) for me.
M-audio used to have a 'read me' in an older driver that stated that the multichannel drivers were for Sonar. I don't know if it matters, but deselecting drivers you don't need is supposed to take some cpu load off Sonar. It also makes choosing in and outs simpler if the drop down lists in Track properties only includes those you actually use.
And yeah, glitching audio is more likely to be a windows optimisation problem (things interupting in the background). But XP really is better in that regard.
That Patchbay is exactly what its name suggests. You can "wire" up the physical connections (The Hardware ones) to a choice of Virtual connections (The device drivers that Sonar wants).
Normally you would want Analog out 1/2 to go to H/W out 1/2 - this is the pair you want to monitor from? And this is the output bus you need to select for your Sonar tracks. If 1/2 of card #1 is the only output you're using (what a waste!) then you might as well only have this enabled in Sonars drivers tab. If you want an s/pdif out too, then you'll have card 2 multichannel 9/10 enabled as well (it might not be a good idea to have the s/pdifs used for the card sync available to Sonar anyway, let them do just one job). BTW -in case you haven't guessed, Sonars enabled drivers are highlighted blue. I always run Sonars Profiler again after making these alterations, but I don't know if you really have to, I just do.
Now for inputs. Presumably, you have a monitor mix from your board with the channel directs going straight to the 1010s. So there is no need to patch any 10101 analog ins to the H/w out - you can take it on trust that your mixers monitor is giving a good idea of what is recording - its simpler that way and all you need in Sonar is to set up the tracks record input channel to match the instrument channel feed from your mixer. If you do want to monitor the signal reaching a 1010, see if you can patch another H/W out to another aux in on the Mackie and in the Patchbay set the Monitor Mixer to feed that output - Now the mix set in the Delta panel monitor mixer (mute all but the ins you want to hear) can be heard via a Mackie Aux. I think you can also record from the Delta mon' mix - is it multichannel 11/12?
Complicated isn't it?
Jim

dont put too much faith in you......
are you kidding???? i woudl be scratching my head with WinMe asking why isnt this working?!?!?!?!? with these exprssions   :( .
so THANK YOU!!!!!
its working fine. i set it up so that i have a total of 14 inputs. chls 15 &16 are WAVOUT 1 & 2 from delta #2 so i dont have to flip back and forth between the delta control panel. but i understand what you say about how to hook it up. i just know that the way i have it is a bit easier for me at the moment.
thanks again!
