SONAR 2.0 released today

I think it is the new one, if you mean the V1. Though the Cakewalk site calls it the 'Mastering EQ' (another Sonic Timeworks product which you mentioned), it's the V1 that is pictured. I just downloaded the demo, and it does sound pretty good...Maybe I'll go for XL afterall...Anyway, I've got two weeks to play around with the demo and I'm sure there will be plenty of time to decide before Sonar 2.0 is available.
 
Received this info in an email this morning from Cakewalk...

"Customers who purchased SONAR 1.x on or after March 1, 2002, are eligible for a free upgrade to SONAR 2.0."

"free" upgrade when purchased from MARS

I purchased my Sonar 1.3 recently at MARS, as their catalog copy said "get free upgrade to the next version of Sonar". I was going to buy it anyway, the $239.00 price was competitive, but after a 20 minute hold with a manager, they still couldn't explain to me what the "free upgrade" copy meant, as there had been no direction from corporate.
 
well the one i'm talkin about is blue...and has 2 algorithms clean & vintage...only eq i'm using

LOL!!

Mars Music is the Wall-Mart of music stores. I go to one in Boston and their staff is totally clueless. They have great prices on equipment...just don't ask anyone for any help>:^)
 
Diatonic, The Marz chain in California just moved out. I can't see how they thought they'd do well against Guitar Center AND Sam Ash, along with other well known stores in the area. They had a total blow out, offering a minimum of 40% to 60% on the entire stock, which allowed me to gear up on the cheap. But, to the contrary, I did meet 3 or so very helpful sales reps there during the year that they were in town (Cerritos).
That's where I had just bought Sonar 1.0 about 2 weeks ago, which is about 2 weeks before they "drew the line."

Yep, I called Cakewalk and that is what they told me too. In otherwards, if you bought Sonar 3 weeks ago, you're out of luck.

Rewire worth it alone

i have already ordered my sonar 2 upgrade and cannot wait for the rewire capabilities. Being able to hook it up with Reason (the greatest software ever) is going to be worth the investment. Of course I am bummed because i recently bought cubase vst for rewire capability and hve been toying around with it. I would not have if I had known they were going to rewire.
 
You know, for a couple of years I've been listening to everyone complain about the Cakewalk file system. You know, the method of giving files names like CVthiep2.wav and sticking them all in one big folder together.

So, Sonar 2.0 is announced and one of the features is a revamped file system with "per project audio folders" and "track/clip/project-based file names."

Isn't that alone worth the $79.00 upgrade price? Based on the number of times I've read people bitching about the current file system. I would think so.

Cakewalk is listening. This is what you've all been complaining about, and they have done something about it. So pony up the $80 and order it.

As for XL, you'll have to figure out if the two Sonic Timeworks plug-ins are worth the extra $90 to you. I haven't used them but have heard good things about them - however I find I'm getting pretty jaded about plug-ins. These days they've got to be really good, or really unique to get space on my HDD. So I'm thinking I'll pass on XL myself.
 
As ever, spot on dachay. Getting rid of the sublime file naming system and the sonic reverbx alone is worth the upgrade. No, change that, the reverbx on its own is worth it.
 
normally, software companies give free upgrades from the moment that they annouce the coming release of a new version. the fact that cakewalk made an announcement 1 month before the release date instead of 3 shows that they have a good distribution plan.

as a software architect for ibm, i applaud them.

as a home studio owner, i could strangle them.

i'm going to buy the upgrade simply because of the file system alone.

Since I bought Sonar in March, they (cakewalk) are upgrading me free. I just had to send them my receipt, ser #, etc. in the mail.

Does anyone know when the upgrades are available?
 
let me get this straight...

if i buy sonar 1.0 today ($239 at musiciansfriend) then i get a free upgrade to 2.0?

can someone confirm this?

That should be the case. Sonar has been offering the free upgrade to 2.0 since about March 1. However, it's probably safest to check directly with Musician's Friend.

Also, since Sonar 2.0 is now officially released, you may be able to purchase 2.0 and avoid the updgrade route altogether.
