FYI, 2.0 released today. I ordered it as an upgrade from PA 9 for $99. On some other boards, some folks are calling CW because they purchased SONAR version 1 recently and don't want to pay the $79 upgrade to 2.0. You might try this if you bought SONAR recently.

It's shipping the first 2 weeks in April.

I haven't found a damn thing about version 2.0.

What changes does it include?

Here's a link for everyone---->

www.cakewalk.com/Press/PR-SONAR2.htm

I'm going to wait until the dowload is available...looks like Cakewalk has managed to get another $79 out of me.

I hope that this wasn't just a marketing ploy by Cakewalk to hold back available options to charge customers for at a later date>:^|

Cakewalk is no worse than any other software manufacturer. When a new version is slated for release, at some point prior they begin selling the previous version with a free upgrade to the next version. This is typically a couple of months before release, when beta testing is going on and it's beginning to look stable enough that they can soon decide on a release date. They pretty much have to or else a month or two before the release date of the next version no one would buy their product if they had to pay for an update within such a short time, so sales would stop and everyone would wait for the new version.

You have to draw the line somewhere -- you can't expect them to give free upgrades forever.

Interesting, they have removed Sonar from the buy direct price list, and it doesn't appear as an option to upgrade from another cakewalk product, as it previously used to.

They should have a free upgrade for anyone who purchased 1.0 in the last 3-4 months. I would have waited.

That said, what are you gonna do? Looks like I'll be out another $79 soon.

They seem to have added some new editing and midi features. The big question will be whether these are really worth the bucks. I find some of the new features intriguing, so I'll probably upgrade. However, I'm not sure I want or really need the three additional plug ins that come with Sonar XL (as far as i can tell XL is just these three plug ins), so I'll probably upgrade to Sonar 2.0 , not 2.0 XL....

I just bought Sonar!!!

I just bought Sonar about 3 months ago, full version. Don't you think they ought to give me the upgraded version since I am still a newbie?

i agree wit that i have the compressorX sounds good
only comp plug better i heard was the RCL

and if the EQ is there new EQ and not the old mastering eq then its a real good eq very clean sounding second to none native system plug in wise

this is of course in IMHO

Unless I've misread, the Sonic Timeworks comes with 2.0 XL. The upgrade to XL is substantially more.

Upgrade to 2.0 from PA - $99
Upgrade to 2.0 from SONAR 1.x - $79
Upgrade to 2.0 from SONAR 1.x XL - $79
Upgrade to 2.0XL from SONAR 1.x XL - $169
Upgrade to 2.0XL from SONAR 1.x - $199

well the 2 timeworks plugs cost as much or maybe more then sonar

bullshit

I just purchased 1.3 thinking I got a great deal for $239....while I can't argue capitalism, I can argue that their seems to be a schedule to these upgrades and obsolescence. I don't see anything in the upgrade worth the extra $80. Its principle vs. GAS

The Re-Wire support is what is convincing me to spend the $79 on the upgrade. The ability to link Reason with Sonar is gonna kick some major arse:)

I'm also looking forward to trying out ReWire with Sonar 2.0. .....Still not sure about XL, but there is plenty of time to try out the demos of the three plug ins that come with XL.
