well my question is how do oyu bounce those tracks.
any help would be appreciated so i can pass it on to him.

i havent used a multi tape recorder in a few years ,
thanks again

I don't have direct experience with the 02 but, if it works similar to other Portastudios of its ilk, the method would be to

(1) arm tracks 3 & 4 to record via slide selector switch then,

(2) set the two tape tracks to go onto the bounce with the desired level, eq and pan, setting their mixer's channel strips to monitor Tape, as apposed to line or mic,

(3) then plug in your live instrument/s into inputs 3 & 4 and mix them to taste to blend with the tracks already on tape on tracks 1 & 2,

(4) rewind the tape to the beginning of the take,

(5) press Play and Record on the transport and you should be good so long as the live take was performed to your satisfaction.

Cheers! :)

There is a link to a manual here

http://www.tascam.com/Products/Porta02mkII/porta_02_manual.pdf

Even though it says "mkII", the manual seems to be for a porta 02.

It seems to imply (but not directly state) that bouncing is not possible. They suggest mixing to an external stereo cassette, then placing that 2-track tape in the P02 and adding two more tracks etc... (yuck!)

thanks guys this helped out a lot,
your replys are much appreciated
