Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a new pair of headphones (budget is about $100). I've searched at Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, Samash.com, etc. and I've found some that seem to be quite good, quality wise. All of them, according to the reviews, seem not too last too long, though.

So here I am.... any suggestions on a good pair of studio headphones that don't fall apart after half a year?

Thanks!

Depends on what you want them for, Juan. Use the search function above for a ton of feedback on many makes and models.

Thanks guys! I'll go and check out your suggestions. I want them mainly fro tracking though, if I know they're good for mixing, I would use them for that purpose too.

I use them for rouging in a mix, and then switch to the monitors. That keeps me from driving my family crazy.

I received a pair of the moreme studio deluxe's for Christmas, and wow, very solid, and for tracking they are gonna work great, much better then the AKG K44's that I have.

Sony MDR7506 for quality; about anything for musicians to overdub with.

I am a big fan of the Sennheiser HD25SP cans. They are pretty low impedence, which might be an issue depending on your headphone amp, but they sound very smooth (a little bass heavy, but in a musical way), seal pretty well, and durable as hell. Also, the parts on em are replaceable without buying new headphones.

I like my phones a little bass heavy, as I am a bassplayer, and have had trouble at times hearing my self tracking next to a drum kit.

Edit:
You should be able to find a pair for $100 or less.

I've just picked up a couple pairs of Senn HD280 Pros and they are friggin awesome. Used for critical listening and tracking.....just my 2 cents worth.

Sennheiser HD280 Pro's

I'll swear by them. I've never had a more comfortable pair of headphones and the sound quality is great.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... they do a wonderful job at blocking out sound. I think I read up to 32db of attenuation... probably exagerated, but it's really good regardless.

Where are they $100.00? (Sennheiser HD280 Pro)?

There are 7 pairs on ebay as we speak with a BIN of US$99
1 pair with BIN US$89
1 pair with BIN US$79

I've used Sonys, ATs, and Senns, and the Senn 280s have been my favorites in sound, comfort, and isolation.

Thanks all! Great suggestions! It looks like the HD280 is the way to go. I like the Moreme and how solid they look but I also want sound quality si I guess the HD280 will work better for me.

Thanks again!

For under $100, I'm somewhat happy with my AKG K66 (around $60)
That was my budget when my AKG 240's bit the dust
The K55's are cheaper, but too much bottom end

I find low-end Sony to lack bottom end, and a pair I got about 10 years ago, died in a few weeks. They just couldn't hold up the bottom end and distorted, and dollar store headphones sounded better

One other comment about the Sen HD25SP's...

If it matters to you, they are low enough impedence that you could use em with your portable MP3 player.

Depending on your situation, that might matter to you. You definitely shouldn't be disappointed in the 280's if you go that route. Great cans.

would the senn 280s have the same impedance? to be used across monotoring and portable music player? i have a pair of really bad senn EH1430, didnt really know what i needed when i got them and theyve turned out to be appaling, they distort at the smallest levels. would the senn 280s have better reaction to high level? and finally what is the differnece between the senn hd25sp and the senn 280s? i would be using them to monitor tracking and rough mixing before moving onto speakers (so as not to upset neighbours!!!!)

also what does everyone think to the beyerdynamic dt 880 range? ive had a loan of some and they are great but pricey......

can anyone answer the senn questions for me?
