I'm attempting to record guitar tracks via a Line 6 UX1 pod as my input and using Sonar 8.5 as my recording software on an XP SP3 system. Bearing in mind that I have no knowledge of digital recording, my issue is this: Using the software defaults (WDM) the playback quality is terrible i.e. "wobbly" sounding and "poppy." I've fiddled with the audio settings and attempted using ASIO at which point I had no playback sound at all (though there was a waveform so I'm assuming the input worked). I'm trying to just output through my PC's speakers as I don't have external speakers to use. Hopefully I've provided enough information, any help would be greatly appreciated. I would just love to have clean, clear recording quality- hopefully that's a possibility. Thanks millions for any insight.

One thing that might make it all easier is to figure out a way to go from your interface's outputs into the speakers you wanna use.
This might mean a couple 1/8" to 1/4" adapters, or if your computer speakers have just one input and are connected to each other, just one 1/8" to 1/4" plugged into the headphone output of the Line 6.

Then just use the Line 6's recommended drivers and it should bypass any driver problems you're having trying to use your computer's internal soundcard for playback while using an external soundcard for input.

Hope that helps.

I use Sonar 7XL and I am currently using the Asio 4 all driver which seems to work pretty well. If the track your recording on is getting a signal, then most likely you just need to hook up a set of appropriate cables to the "outputs" of the line 6 Pod so you can monitor. Im not sure what the POD's outputs would be.......but if im not mistaken it is a USB type interface.......Therefore what you record WILL go to your Computer via the usb cable, and the audio you want to hear WILL come back through the USB cable, then to your outputs on your line 6..........from there you will hook a set of cables from the outputs of the line 6 into a set of inputs to your monitors, or mixer etc etc etc.............

If this isn't your problem......ensure that you have your drivers selected under "options" then Audio something

If this isnt your problem......ensure that your interface is selected under "options" then audio something

sorry........im at work so im going off of memory here. Also im sure Sonar 7XL and Sonar 8.5 are going to be different......BUT the concept should be the same throughout any Sequencer prorgram.

good luck man

CHEERS!!!!!!

So if I have this right...you're recording through your POD and playing back through your computer speakers. If that's the case, you'll have to change your drivers in Sonar when you swap back and forth. In other words when your recording, Sonar will need to use the Line 6 UX driver. When you're playing back/mixing, Sonar will need to use another driver (probably DirX or something). Or either plug some speakers/headphones into your POD and use the POD all of the time.
