demo of samplitude?

ok, and how can I check how much power this supply is putting out?

Q10 has been known to be a power eater...

a pc tech should check your power supply.
yes - demo samplitude.peace.

Meant to chime in awhile ago but I've been super busy at work. Vegas and ASIO don't get along too well right now. I had the exact same problems the first time I upgraded to Vegas 5 and tried ASIO. Switched to WDM and never looked back.

interesting...so can you tell me why my WDM with the Q10 and Vegas just makes white fuzz noise (really loud and annoying..too!)? haha.

you know what i would do as well as trying samp shackrock ?
it would be real interesting as well as trying samp to try the demo of sawstudio. saw was written in assembler , and as such i have a suspicion that it will run fine. or you can try what i use.
if samp and saw demoes run fine with the q10, then it narrows down things.
i would urge you to try saw in fact. it too - like samp seems to run on anything . even though i use a competing product i have great technical respect for both saw and samplitude.
saw is not a big download if i remember.

ok. only reason why i don't want to have to switch programs (i mean, switch for good), is because I have already 25+ tracks in vegas that are yet to be completed on my computer. Additionally, I can use Vegas to all its potential - I have it learned perfeclty! ha!

So I'm wondering what is wrong with Vegas, besides the ASIO drivers.
My other 2 options are:
windows classic wave driver
microsoft sound mapper

which both just give me straight up white noise/painful static when I play a sound file through them. I KNOW that doesnt make sense...but what is going on?! ha!

shack. pure speculation on my part. but i have suspicions as to white noise etc. in classic wave driver or sound mapper are you recording - or trying to - in other sampling rates/bit depths thasn 44.1/16 bit ?????

nope, all are the same, Q10 panel - vegas - record files - all 24-bit, 44.1.
same as ASIO, too

bingo !! 24 bit !!
could you do an experiment please and try 16 bit ? NOT 24 bit ?
tell me if the white noise disappears and the other anomolies.
try wave in/out. theres a reason !!

hahaha, yes sir. What is wave in/out though? i'll try though, i'll try.

edit: but i'll have to do it tomrrow morning, i got strep throat and need some rest. peace!

wow. you're right. haha.
Project set to 16-bit in vegas. Aardvark set to 16 OR 24 (either one..i guess this just sets how it will record the audio). Windows classic wave driver. White noise gone! haha.

What does this mean? haha.

EDIT: But with those settings, the comp still bottlenecks up and crashes with something like ozone running as well...and windows media player of course still starts after a 5-10 second delay because that has nothing to do with veags, ha.

as i said shack bingo !!
so lets take this one step at a time.
we now know several things. process of elimination.
what this means is your 16 bit drivers are working fine but your 24 bit - theres an issue. sounds like your 24 bit drivers arent working properly.
this could be a q10 issue. do you have the latest q10 drivers ?

NOW - please tell me at how many 16 bit 44,1 tracks you get bottleknecks please ? by the way - are you getting latency etc with 16 bit. ???
i'm like a doctor diagnosing.
i would REALLY REALLY need to know if sawstudio demo runs on your system. theres a reason !!!!!!

Here's something you may want to have a look at:
Via : Via chipsets have a history of PCI throughput problems, adversely effecting many high end PCI devices. In most cases, they will work with our products, but we are unable to guarantee optimal performance. The VIA K8T800 chipset, found on some 64 bit AMD machines, is not compatible with our products.

check this thread out: http://www.audioforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10470

Good luck...hope you get it running right.

Yeah VIA has always been sh1t for recording.

Too late for you unfortunately Shack, but for anyone else reading this, if you're building a DAW, Intel chipsets are the only way to go

ok i didnt get a chance to get online until today. but check this out.

So I did some recording today - new projects me and some buddies are working on. I didnt seem to have any problems at all. ASIO. Still though, problems came in those old projects. The REAL problem comes when I put ozone 3 on the master channel. I'm starting to think it's that plug-in, more so than anything else right now. because With the buffers up, no clicks/pops - and Vegas seems to make up for latency and move the file the appropriate ammount (which is tite I think..ha.).

Yeah so no latency issues with 16-bit manning, UNTIL I put ozone on any big project. I guess I'll just have to use Ozone after I mixdown - in essence proccessing twice. Even though I don't really WANT to do this...I might need to. I'm gonna check on the Izotope website soon to see what kinda bottlenecks that thing has when used as a DX effect.

shack. tell me what ozone does for you.and features you need.
i think i might have an alternative. but i want to be sure what you need.

shack. i looked at ozone. a very interesting product.
however in my opinion i'm sure it needs quite a bit of processing power due to its built in algorithms. and vast range of capabilities.
so i think the only alternative is to mixdown and THEN apply ozone to the
stereo master. as i said - if your open minded and tell me the features you like in ozone and REALLY NEED, there might be some alternatives.

okaly... well lets see what I really use:

the brickwall limiter - I hit it hard at -.1 for all my mixes. I don't want any digital clipping even to be SEEN by me...ha! Just for those really random high spikes really.

I use the multiband compression most of the time.

EQ on the mix.

A touch of reverb with it.

Sometimes I use the exciter on it.

haha...that is really most of it. hmm oh well .hahaha..
