There ridiculously expensive but do they really matters? Not to mention, you need a core PCI card or an expansion card, that connects to an audio interface. Both are separately expensive, whats the deal with this Protool Guys? cmon

How would a quality from 24/96 in a $500 Motu or Presonus differ from a 24/96 $3000 Digidesign stuff? If you do a search of professional recording studio , youll see 90% of them uses Digidesign hardware. so it does matters? you can get a $500 audio interface that has everything with preamps and etc with just a simple usb or firewire connection 24/96 or even 24/192.

If you have to use the same set of chain from guitar->amp->mic->preamp between presonus and digidesign, will they have differences? assuming on mixing, your gonna have to do the same process with the same software, the same conversions, the same mastering but just different audio interfaces.....

i think in general, those pros aren't using digidesign preamps or converters.

they're using digidesign interfaces which allow them to connect their own preamps and converters.

again, generally...if you buy an all in one like a digi 003 or a firepod (preamps, converters and interface) you're almost always going to be compromising somewhere......

these two points mean that you can't really compare the quality of protools hd with that of a motu interface(for example) because you don't know what preamps and converters are being used in conjunction with the HD interface.

also, the digidesign pcie/pci cards provide huge processing power for TDM plugins, which means you can have x amount of plugins without using your computers resources to run them....(i think)

your question about the signal path....if you have a bad mic, bad guitar, and bad amp going into a pro setup rather than, say a presonus unit.....sure it'll still sound bad,,,,but it'll be more accurately bad! if that makes sense..

lastly,,,i think it's just a tried and tested software that a lot of pro's like...

if people like it,,,they'll use it!
