snare on yellow submarine

I know Ringo was well known to use a Ludwig Jazz Fest snare quite a bit. But who knows what they grabbed in the studio?

did anybody else notice

the drummer who played with Sting, Dave Matthews, and Vince Gil on the Beatles tribute at the Grammies couldn't play the song!

It's easy to just sit back and listen and think Ringo wasn't doing much. But trying to play like that and really locking in is another thing all together. It's all about the feel and the groove, and the SONG!

I'd rather play with a steady, lay-it-down drummer like Ringo, than a fancy-shmancy showoff that can't keep time.

All the hot dog Roll Kings I've heard and played with, cannot keep accurate time when coming out of one of their show-boating rolls.

Damned annoying to me as the bassist.

Lay it down is right...

How many drummers could you hear without supporting accompaniment and recognize who it was? Many can with Ringo. He sounds like Ringo.

Ringo had feel and wrists and everything. (Yeah that might be a strange sentence) My favorite drummer of all time.

....a lot of the really great bands have one thing in common....they are greater than the sum of their parts...and with Lennon and McCartney's songwriting genius added in the effect
was magnified. Ringo was the right man for the job. The Who had the most spectacular drummer on the planet in Keith Moon, but after he was replaced, they actually sounded better, and did a lot of their best work. A drummer absolutely has to be a team player.
