For a long time now, I've wanted a SMPTE display for the wall. Something with large digits, that I can see without squinting. Maybe, 3-4" tall LED's.
I have an RS422 port on my akai "master" recorder I won't be using anymore, since I've successfully tested akainet for recorder syncronization.
So, I've been doing research. I've found small 1U type things, but nothing big (thats affordable).
And... I have this large bag of rectangular LED's, two LED's per segment, and I have enough to make the necessary 9-digit display.
RS422 is easy, a maxim or fairchild chip for that, maybe to a PIC chip, viola, instant display.
I could even have this PIC decipher record buttons, so if any channels are marked for record, I could have a relay close which I could use to light two red recording lights. One in the console room, one in the vocal booth.
Just thinking aloud. Anyone here have PIC experience? Want to work together? I don't see the point in spending 1000$US for something that could probably be made in a week or two.
