Hey guys,

I'm looking for some advice on what the best set up for my home studio would be. It's mainly for practicing and recording a small two-piece indie band with drums and electric guitar. I am using a Kustom 2x12'' 30W Combo Amp and the drum kit is just a small 4 piece kit with a couple cymbals.

I have all wood flooring and dry-walling so the acoustics of the room are very bright (too bright).

I am planning on using the two larger rooms as the live room. The two rooms share a wall with an archway as if the two rooms were just one long tunnel. I plan on using one of the two bedrooms as the mixing room.

I am looking specifically for tips on drum kit placement, amp placement, recommendations on what kind of foam/paneling/insulation to get (please note I am on a small budget), and any other advice you guys can offer. Thank you.

Are you doing the "Cart Before the Horse" thing here?
Although the room choices are important, do you recognize that this is going to cost some money?
Have you read anything about room acoustics and recording?
Have you determined how and with what equipment you are going to record with?
Do you already own any recording related software or hardware?
What exactly is the time frame you have to put this all together?
What is your approximate budget currently and long-term?
Do you own this building/facility?
You've not provided us much to work with here.
For a two piece band with a mini-budget, you might consider using one room for now and just start playing and recording with what you have and then as time and money allow, go better then bigger.
