This isn't a mix at all, just my voice over karaoke track. I did not put effects (obviously I BADLY need to learn to sing S better and put a deesser on there.

Just curious what you think of the voice mostly. This was recorded on a mobile pre with an at2035. Any input on the singing would be helpful.

I'm trying to get the recording as good as I can before I start doing the mixing part as the old saying here goes "if you start with a crappy voice, you end up with a crappy recording".View attachment losing.mp3

I'm not much of a singer myself, but I thought that sounded very good. You really capture a lot of the subtleties of the delivery of the original.

I'm not a big fan of that band, but I've certainly heard that song plenty of times and am familiar with that guy's voice, which is pretty distinctive. I think you're doing really well so far. My wife met him briefly once following a concert and she said he really acted like a prick. That's neither here nor there, but it's my only r.e.m. anecdote.

Thanks for the input. Part of the problem now (aside from just being uncomfortable letting people hear me sing) is the sounding like others thing. If I sing over any song, I try to sing it like the original artist (even if I cant). If you tell me to sing something and sound like me, I have no idea what that sound would be. So until I figure that out I guess it's just me trying to figure out what artist/genre I sound decent in so I can do some covers, get some practice, and improve.

Hey polarity. Sounds great. :)
Just lose the shy. ;) I wanted to hear more!

Out of interest, what have you done to the Karaoke track? Did you put a reverb on it or something?
I know you're not asking about that but it sounded funny to me.

this was the first thing I recorded, before I even had headphones. So it was playing over speakers and bleeding in through the mic. Horrible I know hahah but this is the second thing I've posted, just trying to get over the whole thing and get some input.

thanks for the listen steeno!

I have a question, do you play an instrument such as a guitar or keyboard? If you do pick a simple song you like and play and sing it as much as you can or want to. Get the original artists voice out of your head. Play and sing without a karaoke track or anyone else around and just keep plugging away at it. You will discover your voice. Better yet, write some little ditty of your own, it doesn't have to be long and sing, sing , sing. If you don't play an instrument, sing A Capella. By the way, you have a very nice voice.

Yeah I play guitar/keyboard/drums. Currently on the road with work so the only instrument I have is my guitar. I'll give that a try, thanks man.
