sm58 for toms?

hey i have a chance to get some sm 58s for like 40 bucks a piece.... will they work good on toms? if not im not getin em.. cause i have 57 for snare and another 57 other stuff... but if the 58s are good tom mics then ill grab em? wats ur thoughts?

I tried em for toms. I A/B'd the 58 and the 57's for that same reason and went with the 57..its not that they sounded any better or much better, but the 57 was easier to place and direct. the 58's picked up more bleed, but not by much.

it depends on how many toms your mic'ing if all you need is one or two more 57's than go get the 57's. but if you have a bunch of toms to mic 4 or more, than save yourself the money and get the 58's
