ok i have an analogy. its gonna piss you guys off tho.

If I were going into a fist fight, I would rather take advice from a Karate expert who'd been at it for 10 years then taking advice from a street fighter who'd been fighting for 20 years.

OK ... true story... My brother's like 6'2" 200lbs... and doesn't work out much. But he's been in his fair share of bar fights. One night some guy tries to pick a fight with him... Phil (my brother) tries to talk his way out of it cause he basicly doesn't wanna hurt the guy (the guy was a bit drunk)... the guy swings, Phil hits him hard and he goes down... now, the guy's buddy who's not drunk (designated driver I think) steps in to fight Phil for hurting his friend... we both recognise the guy as a local Karate teacher (which of course means he's a "Master") -- Phil tears the guy a new ass...

See, Karate doesn't teach sweet dick all about fighting up-close... and about 99% of all street fights end up on the ground involving a lotta grappling... if you don't know how to grapple or counter a grapple yer screwed...

I haven't read thru this thread yet, but an advice I got from a classical vocalist / teacher, she is against placing the mic higher than the mouth, because by forcing the singer to lift their chin, it somehow affects the air flow and throat in a negative way.

I forgot the details, but, she recommend the mic to be placed at the same height as the mouth.

Learn Jeet Kune Do and you will be learning what Bruce Lee did. He was the best! As far as singing (isn't that what this thread was started for?), stand up, open wide, and roar from within!

That was so awesome that this thread got all about fighting and kicking ass then someone ruins it and gets back on topic. WTF!? jk

I'd have to say this is one of the best threads i've ever started.

Yeh, this thread kicks ass!

Now all we need is someone with an anecdote about a karate teacher they knew who was a great singer, in bars!

one of my friends who is a mediocre singer kicked someone in the balls once when he was in bar. I think he uses the very ancient "piss drunk style" of singing.

The advice that Freeform gave you if you go and follow can RUIN YOUR VOICE.

I disagree with this statement... Advice from anyone will not ruin your voice. The reality is, that everything freeform said was valid, and that it is YOU (the singer) who will ruin your voice! I sang without any lessons for years, and it was always very obvious to me when I was doing damage. Why? Because if I couldn't sing for more than an hour straight, and had a funny sounding voice afterwards, then I knew something was wrong. Granted, there was a period of time that I definitely strained my voice more than I should have, but I knew when to quit. Recently, upon attending some vocal lessons, and doing some one on one with the teacher, I found out that there was absolutely nothing bad about the way I was singing... This is because I was careful!

Listen to your body, and use 1000x as much caution with your voice as you would with your favorite LDC, and you will not 'ruin' anything. Ignore your body, and try to sing like a pro overnight, and you are asking for it. Regardless, the throat is pretty darn sesitive... To me, I can tell by singing a few notes if it's bad... it just doesn't feel good.

And yes, of course: For 99.99% of people, lessons are the only way to acheieve even a semi-professional sounding voice.

This is an idiotic argument, are you an idiot ?
That is why other informed members have not given you more answers.

C'mon dude, take a joke. This isn't politics

i think drinking lots of water helps too. Drinking water helps everything. go...drink some water

natural talent?

i can sing in key when singing with a tune. but when it comes to creating an original composition i cant do a damn thing.

i have a decent voice, but i dont know where to start when creating a harmony between guitar and vocals besides humming chords while im playing them.

any advice would be appreciated.

This thread should DIE!

Die thread DIE!!!

This sounds like a question for the song writing forum. Listen to what our founding fathers did, they should help you find out what it is you are shooting for (I mean what other singers/songwriters do!)

DIE THREAD!! DIE!!:D

No dont die! Whos gonna teach us how to do scream singing? Linkin park! Woot!
