I've noticed that if the first reply to a post in the clinic is a harsh critique, I usually wont listen to that song. I also noticed that many others dont listen to songs if the first critiques is harsh, especially if the critique is about the music itself.

You cant place yourself at the mercy of the first critique, so before posting , it might be a good idea to pm someone that you are posting, and ask them to give a frank but "nice" critique as soon as you post.

IF someone says:

"dude, I totally enjoyed that song. I love the structure, but my personal opinion is that the guitars(while awesomly played) are a tad too light". I wish I could get the same lower midrange that you captured on your mix

I guarantee that you'll get more listens than when the first post is:

"It was a decent effort, but I the harsh vocals got on my darn nerves. Also, the two bar loop that you are using for drums has got to go. Finally, I think you need to get a real sound card. The noise and distortion were distracting me"

so, go ye, and find some online buddies.

man.....why didnt i think of that...trickery and sleight of hand....worked on my wife...

personally, I think that if you record GOOD(no, great) stuff, you get a reputation of such (hey...jus' like da real world...eh? ), people will instinctively want to hear your stuff...and of course the NEW stuff, etc....AND if it's good...you'll get those "trickery and sleight of hand" posts you always wanted that will influence the rest of the world into liking your stuff, and flocking to Walmart to buy the CD!!!!! and maybe even post a good comment too!

a lot of stuff about stuff...

20 more downloads and I'll get that free cassette player!

Come on!

How 'bout hangin your head when your thread drops to the bottom, giving yourself a one-star rating, and woohoo! Here come the pity votes :D:D

!!!! hey wait a minute.....you can give YOURSELF a rating??!?!?...seriously i gotta pay more attention......

Another thing that can help increase listenership . . .

The thread title.

It's your headline, so make it catchy. You gotta' grab the listener's attention and make them want to listen and read the thread.

Something like: "Hot, sleazy girls ! ! ! Listen !" Might work around here. Or maybe even something like: "Man, this tune rocks ! ! ! "

ha ha ha

i named my thread "dumb tune"

but it really is dumb:

get up offa yo thang! get up offa yo big fat goofy thang!

maybe i should have said "cerebral tune"? or maybe "check out my nifty freddie king licks!"

:)

"Hot sleazy girls" would do the trick. I'm thinking of titling my next two "Cure for cancer" and "Free beer and chicken."
:D

again, mixmkr, you are right, on-point, and very perspeucous.

The thing is, though, that many songs are not even good, talk less of great, and the guys who wrote them still need replies so they can get better.

Chessrock,
I could not agree more. The title plays a great big role in garnering attention. compare a title like "saturday morning" to one like "I totally outdid myself artistically on hot piece"

and i thought making it in the music biz would be tough...

is anyone planning on starting an MP3 Record Label for the clinic? So that my stuff can get as much exposure as possible and have the backing of a well respected person in the forum?

:)

Actually, I have my own BBS that I made called http://www.kickasstune.com . It is great because I can post my music, and then log in as a different user and then critque myself. I am kinda shy so this works well for me. I usually kick myself in the nuts though.

P.S. If you clicked that link you are silly.

Cyan,

I don't mean to nit-pik, but did you possibly mean perspicacious ?

Couldn't find perspeucous in the dictionary.

Twist

I know I should have used the spell check

The word is :

perspicuous.

It means :Clearly expressed or presented; easy to understand.

Now I have to go to dictionary.com and find the meaning of perspicacious. It sounds like a good word to add to my vocabulary.
