Simple Q: How to Punch in and out?

I'm just getting in to N-tracks, after using tape for years. I'm trying to do a vocal, and I will need to punch in parts. Can you do this with N-tracks or do you have to keep making new takes (or should I say files)? If each performance has to be a separate take/file, then doesn't it get really messy with all the vocal files open?

A second question: how do you rename each track? Or can you? I hope that is an option, since I don't see how you can manage the tracks without naming them.

Preference (Control - P) > Options Tab

Click "Ask for names of wave files to be recorded"

I keep all my instruments in separate folders and name them for song parts, i.e.:

Instrument_Patch_Part.wav
Piano_002_PartA.wav or TenorSax_SectionB.wav, etc.
But then I'm an old programmer and anal about file naming

Go to the Help menu and do a search for Punch... there ARE directions there!

Ugh. The ominpotent Help Option. I figured it would be easier to just post a question, and wait for a week for someone to answer, than to just click on "Help" and read it.
