Rephrase/restate

Tmay,
Would you mind doing 1 of 2 things.
Either go directly to the newbie section of the forum (where I need to be most of the time)
OR
Rephrase your question clearly.
Popping the Q into this forum is inclined to induce sport.
Cheers

OR
If this was a set up to suck me in - you win.....

I can't stop reading this "question." It's like a car accident that I can't turn away from.

I think what he is trying to ask is "When you are using a mixer with your Digidesign MIX setup, where does your mixer go in the signal chain? Does it go before the signal is input into the computer, or after?"

I'm going to have to say, that if you are asking this question, you shouldn't be buying or thinking about buying a high-end protools system. Start small and learn the basics (including the basics of grammar and sentence construction)

Sorry, come on give me a break, i was very sleepy from researching my question that i couldnt find a concrete answer. Iam asking this question for 2 reason. I dont want to mix inside protools i want an outboard mixer. what confusing me is that iam getting conflicting information. (1) should i go keyboards into 888/24 in and then 888/24 out into mixer. or (2) keyboard, synths, mic pre into mixer and then into 888/24. (3) should i split the soure and send to 888/24 and mixer at the same time.

Sorry, tmay, I'm just messing with you. ;)

I don't know the answer to your question, so I'll just shut up! :D

What external mixer are you using?
Does the mixer have recording outputs on each channel?

Sorry tmay but here it is

Usualy if you record your keyboards you can go straight in to your computer.

But it all depends what hardware you have.If you have a preamp you would run the keyboard to the preamp, then record it in your computer. And then if you dont want to mix it inside of your computer ,you will need an analog mixer.

So here are the steps

1)run keyboard through the preamp, and record it in your pc

2)run the recorded tracks (the whole song, seperate tracks)into your analog mixer

3) rout the mixer back into PC and record the final mix again in the pc :D

Well i dont think you are ready for that yet,i advise you to mix inside the box for a while and practice .You cant be a brain sergeant in a day :D

Well if you can, I would run your Keyboard through your mixer then run individual channels into your PC, then run them back to your mixer. Just think of your PC as a hard disk recorder. You can send your mix back to the PC or get some kind of two track recorder (ie: Masterlink).

tmay, why do you prefer not to mix with your computer / software?
