Hello,
I have a question regarding recording vocals/instruments using mulitiple devices (i.e compressor, preamp, etc). Here is a common situation I run into:
I am recording a really vocal track that I like to compress a little bit on the way in. Would the correct route be to go mic - preamp - compressor - soundcard or with the compressor before the preamp? And also, should the level going into the compressor be as close to 0 db as possible without clipping? If that is the case it would make sense to use the preamp Before the compressor to bring the level up...
But, I have a m-audio omni and the preamp is part of the sound card I guess you could say. So the preamp is last in the chain. Does this matter?
Thanks for the input.
