Location... Who knows, I'm lost.

or...

West St Louis, Ill.

CHINA.

Okay, Derek,... that was on topic and damn funny!

;)

Hey Dave one thing that kinda got me when she listed the mixer was that she said the one she had was simular to the one in the pic. Could she maybe have a differant brand of mixer than a 520 or did you confirm that when you talked to her?

Isn't a 520 (Even if you have to sit on it for awhile) worth 96 bucks? Driving all over creation only to find out it wasn't complete WOULD suck, but it's a 520 for a 100 bucks!
Was the lady on the level? I'm likely way off mark, but I ALMOST smell stolen or something here. It seems if a church was just gonna be like "Hey screw it, lets toss this big expensive mixer", They would at least consult whomever does sound there first. Likewise, if they DID suddenly realize they had no use for it, it seems likely they'd afford the same regard for the PS.
It's like "Oh yeah my church was throwing out this Mercedes, but they kept the spare tire and keys for some reason."

Someone has to write "Confessions of a gear detective." LOL

:)

Well,...

She does seem on the level, and IMO the unit did come from a church. [People are stupid about what they throw away, when the word 'digital' is flashed in their faces].

Having already had my preliminary discussion with her, and fortunately finding a pic of a PS-520 to send her for reference, I feel halfway confident that she can go back to the source to find the p/s [AND CABLE, as I emphasized, several times to her]. I'm optimistic, & hope for the best. It stands as good a chance as any to work out great.

The question of whether the M520-less-power-supply is worth all of $96,... well,... yes, of course it is. Whether I could procure a PS-520 and cable by itself is less of a sure thing, but might be worth gambling on. That's the unknown factor. I've been on Ebay for all of 3-years, hunting audio gear, and I only remember ONE PS-520 EVER being auctioned. Those aren't real good odds, IMO.

I believe the M520, complete and as-new, would have cost ~$8,000-$11,000, minimum, [est],... and $96/used is a great deal, almost any way you slice it, and is still probably a favorable deal without the PS.

She's gonna hunt the PS-520 and cable down, and I hope for the best. After all, this came out of a church, and we all know church-people would never cheat anybody! [Ha-, yeah right]. Anyway, I'm still optimistic the ps & cable can be found, and am hoping for the best.

Man Reel, a complete 520 set up for under a hundred bucks would put you right into the E-Find hall of fame IMO.

I hope it works out.

:)

I guess you weren't online the day the Tascam 58 & rolling rack sold for $76!

I think that was the best deal I've ever seen.

'Cept the day the CS-601 rolling rack itself, auctioned for $9.99!

Yeah, an M520 for $96 is one of those "sleeper" deals. Good thing I was awake at the time!

I hope for the satisfactory conclusion to this deal, and I'm banking on the PS & cable being found. I just asked her to go back and check, since it was probably just overlooked. After all, this woman is NO audio expert, and she's doing the best with the limited knowledge she has. Good point, is that I found and forwarded a picture of the PS-520, pic procured from a previous auction.;)

For any fans or those interested in the 520...

Better perspective of the 520 in terms of dimensions and with PS.

:)

   I already busted my budget for tools.:( Thanks for letting me know.
Now I'll just cringe inside till the end of auction:rolleyes: Oh well, I had to make a choice. Another day maybe. Eugene though. Damn. Where was it a month ago.
fitzZ:)

IF in fact Eugene is close enough, then MAYBE the owner of the
M-3500 NEEDS an amount of your professional craftsperson services equal to the price of the board?
(Maybe the owner just doesn't know he NEEDS it yet.)

GO CUBS
:)

You guys are killing me....

You got to be fucking kidding me. In Eugene. I'm going there Sunday. Alas, I have no spending moola right now. Wouldn't you know it. Well thanks anyway Billy..
This is weird. I watched for 2 months for a 3700 or a 520. I spent the dough on tools instead. Whats next, a SSL for $500 bucks in Salem? Ha! I'd still miss out.
fitZ

Feast or famine.

I can feel your pain Rick...
I didn't think I was EVER gonna find a board.

It'll happen.

Go Cubs

Don't you just love that little high-tech floppy disk thingy? :) It's sooo 80's.

Well the wonderful CD ROM is also from the 80's and no more reliable then the floppy drive.

I have had 2 CD ROM drives die on me in the last year. I have never had a bad floppy drive yet.

At least TASCAM was smart enough, (back then) to put in a standard drive to store the mix information and not some proprietary, obscure drive that cant be found anywhere for parts or storage media.

I would love to have such an 80's board!:D Although, I think the M3700 was more of a 90's product.

Cheers! :)

I'd say the Floppy (Or Diskette) is like the little media that could.
It's STILL (After I don't know how long) reliable, compact, readily availble, pretty much universal AND inexpensive.

It's had a good run.

:)
