ok so ive been using a sm58 with no preamp or mixer whatsoever just plugged straight into the computer with a basic soundcard. the sound is ok though always needs some equing to work with the tracks well. i got so annoyed i ripped the foam off the top of the mic under the capsule and the one in the capsule top to get a more clear less coloured sound.
so, i just ordered a behringer eurorack mx602a and a AKG Perception 200. Im hoping it will be a good upgrade to my sound. can anyone tell me what they think of the perception 200 for vocals only, hip hop. its my first condenser ever. will there be a big difference to the sm58 in sound, like im looking for a nice airy clear sound,

Not familiar with the Eurorack, so forgive a possible stupid question, but it DOES have phantom power, right?

For vocals, large diaphram condensors are certainly the way to go, however I suspect the biggest difference you're going to hear in the quality of your recordings will come from the facr you've gone from your sound card's preamp to something that, while entry level, was actually designed for high end audio.

yea it has phantom power, i made sure of that.. theres only one thing im not sure about. do i use a rca to 1/8th inch to connect it to my computer? or do i need something else, like 1/4 to 1/4 or something.. im confused a lil but pretty sure its rca.. and line in on my soundcard, i only have 3 plugs, one for headphones, one for mic and the other i assume is line in. its black btw.

Well, you've got your choice of RCA or 1/4" outs from the board, I suspect - you'll need either a RCA-to-1/8" cable or a 1/4"-1/8" cable (or a 1/4" cable with an 14/" to 1/8" adaptor). As to which would provide you the best sound quality, I personally don't know if it makes a difference. Maybe someone else can weigh in...?

yea, thanks. i wasnt sure if i could use both. im not sure which one is better. i have a 1/4th to 1/8th adapter. but umm. i just wanna make sure. and i wonder which one is better. and is that all i need? i plug into line in or mic? or what cuz ima little confused about that. i hope i dont need a new soundcard cuz i saw one at the store that had 5 plugs, and 2 of em were line in and line out labled. mine has 3, mic/headphone/ and a black colored one that i assume is line in.

also, i was wondering do I plug my headphones into the mixer? or the soundcard . like do i need one or two rca cables.
